dc.description.abstractÇiçekleri ele aldığı resimleriyle ünlü Georgia Totto O'Keeffe Amerikan motiflerinde soyutlamaya giderek Amerikan Modem sanatının gelişmesinde önemli bir rol oynamıştır. 20. yüzyıl başlarında Avrupa avangardım Amerika'ya getiren fotoğrafçı Alfred Stieglitz O'Keeffe'yi New York sanat dünyasına tanıttı. O'Keeffe'nin sanatı çiçekleri, kayaları, deniz kabuklarını, kemikleri, hayvan iskeletlerini ve manzarayı etkili soyut imgeleri haline dönüştürdüğü soyutlama ve temsilin sentezidir. Canlı paleti, close up tekniğini temel alarak yaptığı ölü doğalar, ve imgeleri Amerikan sanatının ikonografisi haline gelmekle kalmamış, onun uluslararası imzası haline de gelmiştir. Sanat kariyerinin ilk başlarında özgür ruhlu O'Keeffe 'erkek sanatçı' kavramı ile mücadele vermek zorunda kalmıştır. dc.description.abstractFamous for her sinuous depictions of flowers, Georgia Totto O Keeffe played a pivotal role in the development of American modemism by adapting abstraction to American motifs. American photographer Alfred Stieglitz who sought to promote the European vanguard movements of the early 20th century in America introduced O'Keeffe to the New York art world. O'Keeffe's art is a synthesis of abstraction and representation transforming her subject matter of flowers, rocks, shells, animal bones and landscapes into eloquent abstract imagery. O'Keeffe's vibrant palette, close up still-lifes and imagery have not only caused her work to be an indispensable part of American iconography but has also become her international signature style. At the initial stages of her artistic career, the free-spirited O'Keeffe had to overcome the arcane notion of the 'male artist' in the age of modernism. Considerable contraversy has surrounded her timeless and momentary flowers, since they could not escape the Freudian interpretations and were read as fecund womanly emotion and metaphores of women sensuality.en_US
