While examining the evolution of the adjective artist, this thesis will deal with the constant and changing features of meaning of this adjective. The fact that someone who is making art is an artist, does not constitute that someone who makes art is an artist. For this reason, artist typologies have been examined through works by using anthropology, art history, philosophy and art criticism as a methodology. In this study, the artist's becoming an adjective in western art is examined through the issues of originality and freedom. The similarities and differences between the identity of the artist who appears as an ego and the identity of an artist who appears as an alter ego are revealed. Within the scope of the study, it has been determined that the common aspects of the artists who lived at different times are originality and their differences are freedom. This thesis argued that after postmodernism artists create a persona instead of ego and alter ego. This study emphasized that this persona is in contrary to the artist's originality and freedom issues. Therefore, while artist is not used as an adjective in Turkish language, terms such as "digital artist", "photography artist", "video artist", "tattoo artist", "installation artist" in the Western languages destroy the meaning of freedom in the adjective sense of the artist and descend it to the meaning of artist in Turkish language. This is against the very nature of the artist. In this digital age, where the majority of people are trying to create an artistic persona, there is a lot of information pollution. Having the principles of originality and freedom at its core, the artist has completely lost its meaning in our age of digital interaction, which everyone can attribute to himself as a name. In this age of interaction, it will also be an issue to be the one who can teach the most with their sharing. It is inevitable for the artist of the future to be a “life teacher who gives knowledge to experience”. Therefore, while examining the "Past, Present, Future Artist Typology" in this thesis, an artist typology that should be in the future is also emphasized.
