Design and implementation of wideband microwave amplifiers based on Normalized Gain Function
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2014) Köprü, Ramazan; Kılınç, Sedat; Aksen, Ahmet; Yarman, Bekir Sıddık Binboğa
In this work, we introduce the design and implementation of wideband microwave amplifiers based on "Normalized Gain Function (NGF)" method. Normalized Gain Function is defined as the ratio of desired shape or frequency response of the gain function of the amplifier to be designed and shape of the transistor forward gain function. Synthesis of input/output matching networks (IMN/OMN) of the amplifier require target gain curves as the functions of normalized gain function to be tracked in two sequential nonlinear optimization processes. A prototype low power amplifier circuit is produced and measured to show the usability of the design approach.

Mixed element wideband microwave amplifier design via simplified real frequency technique
(IEEE Computer Society, 2014) Kılınç, Sedat; Köprü, Ramazan; Aksen, Ahmet; Yarman, Bekir Sıddık Binboğa
In this study, we illustrate the design and implementation of a wideband microwave small-signal amplifier composed of mixed elements. The design is based on Simplified Real Frequency Technique (SRFT). A design of low power amplifier circuit is completed and its simulations are performed in success. The circuit is designed with lumped elements, however, some of the lumped elements are converted to distributed elements for their convenience in production. In this way, a mixed element wideband microwave amplifier comprised of input/output matching networks with lumped and distributed elements has been formed. Layout work and also post layout simulation is given with satisfying results.

Wideband bandpass filter design for X band horn antenna via numerical techniques
(IEEE Computer Society, 2015) Köprü, Ramazan; Aydın, Çağatay; Atilla, Doğu Çağdaş; Kılınç, Sedat; Yarman, Bekir Sıddık Binboğa
Design of an X band horn antenna and a wideband unit element microstrip bandpass filter (UEBPF) for this antenna are presented with satisfactory agreement between theoretical and simulation results. Numerical methods known as real frequency techniques (RFTs) have been utilized in Richards domain to yield optimum driving point Darlington input impedance function belonging to the UEBPF that enables a maximum RF power transmission between the designed horn antenna and an RF driving source. Using a high precision Richards immittance synthesis package in Matlab, characteristic impedance values of each UE, out of k number of commensurate (equal length) transmission lines forming the UEBPF, is extracted from the input impedance function. Theoretical design (Matlab of Mathworks Inc.) and simulation (ADS of Agilent Inc., HFSS of ANSYS Corp.) results are shown to be very promising and in a high degree of agreement with each other.

Unit element bandpass filter design via simplified real frequency technique for UWB microstrip patch antenna
(IEEE Computer Society, 2014) Köprü, Ramazan; Kılınç, Sedat; Aksen, Ahmet; Yarman, Bekir Sıddık Binboğa
Design of a UWB (Ultra Wideband) microstrip patch antenna to operate in the first channel of the UWB standard and a bandpass (BP) UE (Unit Element) microstrip filter (BPUEF) for this antenna are studied and presented with promising experimental results. A typical UE BP filter is a lossless 2-port network which is formed with certain number of cascade connected commensurate transmission lines. Based on the simplified real frequency technique (SRFT) in Richards domain, driving point Darlington impedance function of the BPUEF is obtained via optimization such that optimum power transfer would be possible between a PA (power amplifier) and the antenna. Using the UE synthesis, characteristic impedance values of each UE is extracted from the input impedance function. Theoretical design (Matlab), simulation (ADS, Agilent Inc.) and the measurements are shown to be in a high degree of agreement.

Dual band filter design for GSM bands using frequency mapping and real frequency technique
(IEEE, 2018) Yıldız, Serkan; Kılınç, Sedat; Aksen, Ahmet; Yarman, Bekir Sıddık Binboğa
In this study, dual band frequency mapping is incorporated with Real Frequency Technique to design a dual band filter for GSM900 and GSM1800/UMTS bands. The proposed real frequency design technique (RFT) involves a parametric representation of input impedance of filter and the use of a dual band (DB) frequency mapping. A direct DB frequency mapping from low pass proto-type network is utilized along with the design and optimization of a low pass prototype network. Microstrip implementation of the designed filter and measurement results of the design are presented.

Design and realization of wideband matching networks in Richards domain
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc, 2014) Kılınç, Sedat; Köprü, Ramazan; Yarman, Bekir Sıddık Binboğa
A broadband matching network design is given with its simulation and prototype measurement results. The circuit contains certain number of cascaded unit-elements (UEs) and open-stubs which behave as Richards capacitors. Richards domain driving point immittance (impedance or admittance) function of the network is obtained utilizing the Real Frequency Direct Computational Technique (RFDCT). Synthesis of the immittance function via "high precision Richards synthesis package" yields the characteristic impedances of microstrip unit-elements, open and short stubs. Kuroda transforms are used to convert short-stubs to open-stubs due to their difficulties in manufacturing. Theoretical design, simulation and measurements are in a good agreement.

(IEEE, 2016) Köprü, Ramazan; Atilla, Doğu Çağdaş; Aydın, Çağatay; Kılınç, Sedat; Yarman, Bekir Sıddık Binboğa
Design of a wideband cascaded unit element microstrip bandpass filter (UEBPF) operating along the whole X-band (8-12 GHz) is presented with satisfactory agreement between theoretical and measurement results. Simplified real frequency technique (SRFTs) has been utilized in Richards domain to design the UEBPF, whose driving point impedance function is then synthesized by a "high precision Richards immittance synthesis package" in Matlab, Theoretical design, simulation and measurement results are shown to be in a good agreement with each other.
