Design/methodology/approach: This is a multiple respondent quantitative study. A total of 312 marketing managers middle level and above from 79 firms participated in the survey. Multiple regression and hierarchical multiple regression was the method of choice for data analysis. Findings: Findings indicate that environmental munificence moderates the entrepreneurial orientation – innovativeness relationship. Findings reveal that even though a significant impact of entrepreneurial orientation is not present on innovativeness, this insignificance may be due to environmental munificence. Market orientation has a direct positive impact on innovativeness, and environmental munificence negatively moderates this relationship suggesting that when the environment is less munificent, the market orientation – innovation link becomes stronger. Practical implications: Managers should be aware that the more munificent an environment becomes, having an entrepreneurial orientation will be more important for innovativeness. In addition, results of this study suggest that being market oriented more strongly impacts a firm’s ability to innovate in non-munificent environments where growth opportunities are undesirable. Originality/value: This study is unique in that it is a multi-respondent study with respondents from different layers of each participating organization, incorporating the moderating impact of the business environment’s munificence on business orientations–innovativeness relationship.Yayın The state of property development in Turkey: facts and comparisons(Cambridge University Press, 2016-09-01) Demiralp, Seda; Demiralp, Selva; Gümüş, İnciIn this article, we investigate economic and political developments in Turkey's construction sector over the last decade and consider their implications. We find that during the first term of the government of the Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalklnma Partisi, AKP), thanks to administrative and economic incentives, both private and public construction rose considerably. Despite the construction sector's contribution to growth, there is also evidence of a transfer from the industrial sector toward the construction sector, which led to significant decline in the trend growth of the industrial sector in the era prior to 2006. Such evidence disappears in the post-crisis period, when the growth of private construction slows. However, overcentralization, clientelism, an absence of transparency, and limitations on citizen participation in urban planning remain as problems that need to be addressed through urban reform.Yayın A point cloud filtering method based on anisotropic error model(John Wiley and Sons Inc, 2023-12) Özendi, Mustafa; Akça, Devrim; Topan, HüseyinMany modelling applications require 3D meshes that should be generated from filtered/cleaned point clouds. This paper proposes a methodology for filtering of terrestrial laser scanner (TLS)-derived point clouds, consisting of two main parts: an anisotropic point error model and the subsequent decimation steps for elimination of low-quality points. The point error model can compute the positional quality of any point in the form of error ellipsoids. It is formulated as a function of the angular/mechanical stability, sensor-to-object distance, laser beam's incidence angle and surface reflectivity, which are the most dominant error sources. In a block of several co-registered point clouds, some parts of the target object are sampled by multiple scans with different positional quality patterns. This situation results in redundant data. The proposed decimation steps removes this redundancy by selecting only the points with the highest positional quality. Finally, the Good, Bad, and the Better algorithm, based on the ray-tracing concept, was developed to remove the remaining redundancy due to the Moiré effects. The resulting point cloud consists of only the points with the highest positional quality while reducing the number of points by factor 10. This novel approach resulted in final surface meshes that are accurate, contain predefined level of random errors and require almost no manual intervention.Yayın Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy in adolescents with panic disorder: a twelve-week follow-up study(SAGE Publications Ltd, 2023-06-16) İnci İzmir, Sevim Berrin; Korkmazlar, Ümran; Ercan, Eyüp SabriThe aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) treatment in adolescents with panic disorder (PD). This follow-up study consists of 30 adolescents with PD without agoraphobia, aged 14–17 (15.53 ±.97). They were evaluated with Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children Present, also the Panic and Agoraphobia Scale (PAS) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were administered at baseline, at the end of the 4th and 12th weeks of treatment. EMDR therapy which is an eight-phase treatment approach composed of standardized protocols and procedures was applied for 12 weeks, one session per week. The baseline mean of the total PAS score decreased from 40.06 to 13.13 at fourth week and 1.2 at the end of 12th week of treatment. In addition, BAI score decreased significantly from 33.67 to 13.83 at 4 weeks and 5.31 at the end of 12th week of treatment. Overall, our results underscore the effectiveness of EMDR in adolescents with PD. Moreover, the current study suggests that EMDR may represent an effective intervention technique for PD in adolescents to protect against relapses and to overcome a fear of future attacks.Yayın Identification of metabolic correlates of mild cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease using magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging and machine learning(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2022-12) Cengiz, Sevim; Arslan, Dilek Betül; Kıçik, Ani; Erdoğdu, Emel; Yıldırım, Muhammed; Hatay, Gökçe Hale; Tüfekçioğlu, Zeynep; Uluğ, Aziz Müfit; Bilgiç, Başar; Hanagasi, Haşmet; Demiralp, Tamer; Gürvit, Hakan; Öztürk Işıkk, EsinObjective: To investigate metabolic changes of mild cognitive impairment in Parkinson’s disease (PD-MCI) using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (1H-MRSI). Methods: Sixteen healthy controls (HC), 26 cognitively normal Parkinson’s disease (PD-CN) patients, and 34 PD-MCI patients were scanned in this prospective study. Neuropsychological tests were performed, and three-dimensional 1H-MRSI was obtained at 3 T. Metabolic parameters and neuropsychological test scores were compared between PD-MCI, PD-CN, and HC. The correlations between neuropsychological test scores and metabolic intensities were also assessed. Supervised machine learning algorithms were applied to classify HC, PD-CN, and PD-MCI groups based on metabolite levels. Results: PD-MCI had a lower corrected total N-acetylaspartate over total creatine ratio (tNAA/tCr) in the right precentral gyrus, corresponding to the sensorimotor network (p = 0.01), and a lower tNAA over myoinositol ratio (tNAA/mI) at a part of the default mode network, corresponding to the retrosplenial cortex (p = 0.04) than PD-CN. The HC and PD-MCI patients were classified with an accuracy of 86.4% (sensitivity = 72.7% and specificity = 81.8%) using bagged trees. Conclusion: 1H-MRSI revealed metabolic changes in the default mode, ventral attention/salience, and sensorimotor networks of PD-MCI patients, which could be summarized mainly as ‘posterior cortical metabolic changes’ related with cognitive dysfunction.Yayın Development of externalizing behaviors in the context of family and non-family relationships(Springer New York, 2016-02-04) Akçinar Yayla, Berna; Baydar, NazlıA longitudinal model was presented, that included reciprocal associations between physically harsh parenting by the mother, child externalizing problems, and support from the father, the extended family, and the neighbors. This transactional process was estimated for the years preceding school entry. The data were from a 4-years longitudinal and nationally representative study of 1009 children and their mothers in Turkey. The results indicated that concurrently, physically harsh parenting and child externalizing problems were strongly associated. Controlling for their within domain stability and cross-domain concurrent correlation, changes in harsh parenting and changes in child externalizing behaviors had significant reciprocal effects in early childhood, although these effects were small. These reciprocal effects were smaller for observer reported harsh parenting than maternal reports. There was a role of the mesosystem in this developmental process. Increases in the support from the father, and the extended family and the neighbors predicted declines in the child externalizing behaviors subsequently. Reciprocally, high child externalizing and maternal physically harsh parenting predicted subsequent declines in the support from these sources. These results were consistent with the hypotheses that negative mother–child relationships could spill over to the other relationships of the mothers, and that positive and supportive relationships of the mother could constitute positive role models for the child.Yayın White Turks, Black Turks? However, the focus on the Islamism versus secularism dichotomy, a common bias in the studies of Muslim countries, disguises a deeper faultline between the old urban elites and the newly rising provincial actors. This article highlights the need to see beyond the 'Islamism-secularism' divide and to consider the complex relations of power between alienated social groups in Turkey. It analyses the intricate and multilayered forms of 'othering' in the urban secularist discourse, which perpetuates the inequalities and contention in society. Instead of taking the 'Islamism-secularism' divide as given, the article analyses the construction of secularist and Islamic identities and considers how this dichotomous discourse has empowered the urban parties to control the provincial. Finally, implications for the reconciliation of antagonised social groups are presented.Yayın Using the ultrasonic stress wave technique to evaluate structural timber members of an old masonry building(Kastamonu Univ, Orman Fak, 2018) Koca, Gülru; Dündar, Türker; As, NusretAim of study: The main objective of this study is to evaluate the current state of the structural timber members of an old masonry building by using destructive and non-destructive test methods and to determine the efficiency of non-destructive test methods by obtaining correlations between destructive and non-destructive test parameters. Area of study: Specimens were extracted from different parts of an old semi-detached masonry building in Istanbul, Turkey. The building was built at the beginning of the 20th century in Kadikoy, a residential district in the Asia side of Istanbul. Material and Methods: Ultrasonic stress wave test was carried out on specimens prepared from the structural members. Following the ultrasonic based non-destructive tests, the bending strength and modulus of elasticity in the bending tests were determined for the specimens. Main results: According to the results of the experiments, it was observed that the regression correlations were high for the softwoods (fir and spruce), but relatively lower correlations were obtained for the chestnut specimens. Highlights: Because of the good R-2 values obtained between the MOED and mechanical properties of the softwoods, the non-destructive stress wave technique can be recommended for the evaluation of softwoods in structures. Although chestnut showed very good mechanical properties, a satisfactory evaluation of the chestnut members could not be obtained because of the small number of specimens. Further investigation is needed with large sample groups.
