Employing utilizing the S/W developed in this thesis, SMS messages are sent to cell-phones via internet and users will get information using their cell-phone (Eg: for attendance, exam results, seminar days, etc..). Microsoft SQL Server Database is used for storing the user information, incoming and outgoing messages. ASP (Active Server Page) programming language is utilized for web based interface coding. The application software is developed on Siemens M20 mobile terminal device. Mobile communication has become an indispensable parts of everyone's daily life. This project, which has been developed by using SMS service, a branch of mobile communication, aims to enable people to access information with their cell-phones, when there is no internet. With this package institutions will be able to send announcements to groups of individuals as short messages at the same time. It is known that mobile phones can be used for more than just making phone calls. With the new generation mobile phones, mobile users can access a lot of Mobile Value Added Services (VAS). The term Value Added Services incorporates a lot of services ranging from popular information services like currency or weather information to entertainment services like multimedia messaging, logo, melody and picture message services. That is to say, a cellular phone owner can both request daily news, weather or horoscope information and can download multimedia messages, melodies, logos and picture messages to his mobile phone by sending a specific request message via SMS. In the meantime, Value Added Services Platforms utilize the GSM Operator's Short Message Service Centers, to provide Value Added Services to mobile phone users via SMS. Although the majority of Value Added Services are being provided via SMS, WAP and GPRS are other technologies that are utilized by VAS platforms. On the other hand, as the internet is making is possible to publish information content vie World Wide Web (www), mobile phones are becoming more and more popular to provide this information content to people who are mobile. So, in this context, VAS platforms are acting as mediums to provide infotainment to mobile subscribes from the web. This study models the technical features of sample Value Added Services Platform that works over SMS. The main system components of this modeled Value Added Service Platform are explained in detail. The important issues that needs special handling are described for each system component. Moreover, a research is made regarding the smart messaging which is one of the most important parts of VAS. For this, Nokia Smart Messaging Speciation, Nokia Multimedia Messaging Specifiation (MMS) and Enhanced Messaging Specifiation (EMS) are examined in detail. The modeled VAS Platform supports Nokia Smart Messaging Specification. Additionally it can support MMS and EMS if necessary software modules are implemented. So, the implemented software platform can send melodies, logos and picture messages can be requested by sending corresponding keywords for each service via SMS. Such as a network can be established anywhere and anytime, when just two or more communication devices come across. In this network structure, there is no special effort needed for new node join or node leave. Currently, mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) found application areas, due to the progress in mobile communication devices such as cellular phones. In this work, we have examined establishing and sharing session keys, which are essential for secure communication, during establishment of ad hoc networks or extending the network by a new node. We have developed a software program on Linux operating system, implemented in Java programming language, using Bluetooth wireless communication technology which is mostly available on current cellular phones, notebooks and palm computers. To this date the simlations were hard to make as there were two separate prgrams to run , one to generate data other to display the data. The required data generation was made by changing the variables within the C++ prgram and compiling it every time. This tool made the variable selection much easier as the user would see all of the required inputs on the screen. The variable storing option allows the user to review the past Works. The tool also keepstrack of the outputs which allow the user to compare data. In the beginning of this project information is collected about firewalls and firewalls were examined that work on Windows and Linux operating systems in order to see the differences. On linux operating system source kernel allowed us to implement packet filtering firewall. IPWALL is a firewall which can be used as a gateway firewall also it can be used to secure a local area network. IPWALL key features are stablity, web-based interface which allows configuring firewall form any operating system; it is highly configurable and easy maintainable Linux Firewall. IPWALL communicates with kernel to check and manage network security with packet filtering. By web-based interface IPWALL provides easy and advanced configurable options for novice and expert users. The aim is to continue our improvements on IPWALL as gateway firewall and IPCUBE as personel firewall an share our knowledge of this project in open source community.Yayın New practices for extreme programming applied in campus on-line, a large web based application development project(Işık Üniversitesi, 2003-01) Yıldız, Mustafa; Kuru, Selahattin; Işık Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Bilgisayar Mühendisliği Yüksek Lisans ProgramıIn this thesis, we study practices for Extreme Programming, which is a recent methodology of software development based on rapid application development with small teams who need to develop software in an environment of rapidly changing requirements.Three new practices were introduced namely, Issue-Based Programming, Comment-First Coding and Just-In-Time Code Ownership.Issue-based programming is a designing practice where issues determine priorities.Comment-first coding is a coding practice where coding of a module is separated into two phases;coding the semantics and coding the syntax.Just-in-time code ownership is another coding practice based on delaying code ownership until it is necessary. Extreme Programing is mentioned through its core practices and some extensions,which are currently in the literature. For semantic markup web ontology languages are used which are built on Resource Description Framework(RDF). There is no many user-friendly personal firewalls works on Linux operating system. In the beginning of this study differences and common properties of firewalls examined. IPCUBE is designed and developed to collect good features of firewalls on a personal firewall. It provides stable, secure open sourced, web- based, highly configurable and easy maintained Linux Firewall. IPCUBE is designed on Iptable future of Linux. It uses Iptable commands to check and manage network with packet filtering concept. Its web-based console provides easy and highly configurable options to the non-technic users. All of the TPCUBE's functionalities can be managed on this web-based console. The user of this system is the adult haemodialysis patients. The expert system make the diagnosis and then decides to choose which treatment the patient required according to diagnosis. . The first part of the expert system uses the blood reports showing the laboratory values of the haemodialysis patients. The haemodialysis patient care expert system includes the rules that depends on the electrolytes levels in the blood. Second part of the system is decided the treatment involved in the questions. This expert system's difference is the treatment part because the haemodialysis patients can do the advices by themselves at home, that the system gives. The mobility of the system is another important point that the expert system has. The patient can use this system everywhere. The only thing she/he feel in need is the cell phone.
