Yayın The sectoral sweeper scheme for wireless sensor networks: Adaptive antenna array based sensor node management and location estimation(Kluwer Academic Publishers-Plenum Publishers, 2006-12) Erdoğan, Ayhan; Coşkun, Vedat; Kavak, AdnanWe introduce a novel sensor node management and location estimation method referred as sectoral sweeper (SS) scheme that uses an adaptive antenna array (AAA) at a central node in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). With the SS scheme, the central node can activate or deactivate the nodes in a desired region which is specified by beam direction and beam width of the transmit beam and also by minimum and maximum thresholds (R (min) and R (max)) for the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) of signals received by the nodes. In order to perform a specified task that is associated with a Task_id, two different beams are transmitted, which are task region beam and routing region beam to switch the nodes into active or routing modes. Since our scheme does not require any additional software or hardware for node management and location estimation in sensor nodes, the deficiencies of tiny sensors are effectively eliminated. The proposed scheme is shown to reduce the number of sensing nodes and the amount of data traffic in the network, thus leading to considerable savings in energy consumption and prolonged sensor lifetime.Yayın Deterministic local doubling of W states(OSA - The Optical Society, 2016-11-01) Yeşilyurt, Can; Buğu, Sinan; Özaydın, Fatih; Altıntaş, Azmi Ali; Tame, Mark S.; Yang, Lan; Özdemir, Şahin KayaIn large quantum systems, multipartite entanglement can be found in many inequivalent classes. Preparing states of arbitrary size in different classes is important for performing a wide range of quantum protocols. W states, in particular, constitute a class with a variety of quantum networking protocols. However, all known schemes for preparing polarization encoded photonic W states are probabilistic, with resource requirements increasing at least sub-exponentially. We propose a deterministic scheme for preparing W states of size of any power of 2, which requires no prior entanglement and can be performed locally. We introduce an all-optical setup that can efficiently double the size of W states of arbitrary size. Our scheme advances the use of W states in real-world quantum networks and could be extended to other physical systems.Yayın NFC Loyal for enhancing loyalty services through Near Field Communication(Springer US, 2013-02) Özdenizci Köse, Büşra; Ok, Kerem; Coşkun, VedatNear Field Communication (NFC) as an emerging technology is currently leveraged by large standardization efforts and tries to find a suitable ecosystem. NFC enabled mobile devices with integrated smart cards introduce compelling opportunities and new business models. Development of new standards such as secure element (SE), smart card, secure channel, as well as JavaCard enables creating new ecosystems using a concurrent multi application platform which takes advantage of GlobalPlatform standards. We proposed NFC Loyal, which maintains storage, retrieval, and sharing among payment and loyalty applications through our proposed structure, called as Secure Common Domain Management (SCDM) system. SCDM as a centralized database management system on the SE stores valuable information provided by payment applications and shares them with loyalty applications through a secure channel. The direct outcome of using NFC Loyal is the increase in repeat purchases of customers; as well as being a beneficial business plan realized among the payment firms, loyalty firms, and the card owner, resulting in a win-win business model. In this study, we describe NFC Loyal model with its technical infrastructure, and present the NFC Loyal model's life cycle management on SE.Yayın SIMSec: A key exchange protocol between SIM card and service provider(Springer New York LLC, 2016-08-01) Ok, Kerem; Coşkun, Vedat; Yarman, Bekir Sıddık Binboğa; Çevikbaş, Cem; Özdenizci Köse, BüşraMobile technology is so popular and overdosed adoption is inevitable in today’s world. As the mobile technologies have advanced, Service Providers (SP) have offered services via Smartphones and some of them required secure data communication between the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards on Smartphones and the servers of SP. The latest SIM cards comply with recent specifications including secure domain generation, mobile signatures, pre-installed encryption keys, and other useful security services. Nevertheless, un-keyed SIM cards do not satisfy such requirements, thus end-to-end encryption between the SIM card and SP cannot be provided. In this paper, we provide a key exchange protocol, which creates a symmetric key through the collaborative work of the SIM card and the SP server. After a successful protocol performance, the SIM card and SP can perform end-to-end data encryption. After defining the protocol, we also discuss the security issues and provide a formal security analysis of the protocol using the Casper/FDR tool.Yayın Phase damping destroys quantum Fisher information of W states(Elsevier Science BV, 2014-09-05) Özaydın, FatihWe study the quantum Fisher information (QFI) of W states in the basic decoherence channels. We show that, as decoherence starts and increases, under i) depolarizing, QFI smoothly decays; ii) amplitude damping, QFI first exhibits a sudden drop to the shot noise level, then decreases to zero and finally increases back to the shot noise level; iii) phase damping, QFI is zero for all non-zero decoherence. We also find that on the contrary to GHZ states, QFI of W states in x and y directions are equal to each other and zero in z direction.Yayın A survey on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology(Springer, 2013-08) Coşkun, Vedat; Özdenizci Köse, Büşra; Ok, KeremNear Field Communication (NFC) as a promising short range wireless communication technology facilitates mobile phone usage of billions of people throughout the world that offers diverse services ranging from payment and loyalty applications to access keys for offices and houses. Eventually NFC technology integrates all such services into one single mobile phone. NFC technology has emerged lately, and consequently not much academic source is available yet. On the contrary, due to its promising business case options, there will be an increasing amount of work to be studied in the very close future. This paper presents the concept of NFC technology in a holistic approach with different perspectives, including communication essentials with standards, ecosystem and business issues, applications, and security issues. Open research areas and further recommended studies in terms of academic and business point of view are also explored and discussed at the end of each major subject's subsection. This comprehensive survey will be a valuable guide for researchers and academicians as well as for business world interested in NFC technology.Yayın Quantum fisher information of several qubitsin the superposition of A GHZ and two W stateswith arbitrary relative phase(Springer/Plenum Publishers, 2014-09) Özaydın, Fatih; Altıntaş, Azmi Ali; Buğu, Sinan; Yeşilyurt, Can; Arık, MetinWe study the quantum Fisher information (QFI) of a system of several particles which is in a superposition of a GHZ and two W states with arbitrary relative phase. We show that as the number of particles increases from 3 to 4, the behavior of QFI drastically changes. We also show how the dependence of QFI on the relative phase weakens as the number of particles increases. We also analyze the QFI for the state for several instances of N due to the change of the relative phases.Yayın A role-based service level NFC ecosystem model(Springer, 2013-02) Ok, Kerem; Coşkun, Vedat; Özdenizci Köse, Büşra; Aydın, Mehmet NafizNear Field Communication (NFC) is a short range wireless communication technology allowing to communicate mobile devices within close proximity. It provides opportunity for service providers to offer various value added services to customers. NFC technology allows the usage of wide range of applications and eliminates the obligation to carry additional components other than the mobile device such as credit or payment cards, tickets, identification cards or keys. Despite its technological advantages over alternative ones, the NFC business ecosystems and services are yet to take off. The problems mainly arise with the business issues triggered by different and mostly conflicting needs of many actors in the ecosystem and several additional technical issues. In this study, by adopting a role-based service ecosystem modeling, we propose an NFC ecosystem model which perfectly specifies the roles in the ecosystem, and defines set of activities for each role, and communication structure. We analyzed NFC ecosystem in three phases as pre-installation, installation, and service usage. We have defined the activities and communication structure in the first two phases, and finally investigated the service usage phase in three different operating modes of NFC. After giving the details of the proposed ecosystem model, two use cases are given to validate the developed ecosystem model. We complete our study by discussing the requirement satisfaction.Yayın Quantum fisher information of a 3 x 3 bound entangled state and its relation with geometric discord(Springer/Plenum Publishers, 2015-09) Özaydın, FatihRecent studies on quantum Fisher information (QFI) have been focused mostly on qubit systems within the context of how entanglement helps surpassing the classical limit of separable states and the limit that a given entangled system can achieve for parameter estimation. However, there are only a few works on bound entangled systems. In this work, we study the QFI of a system of the smallest dimension that bound entanglement can be observed: A bipartite quantum system of two particles of three-levels each. An interesting property of this state is that depending only on a parameter, the state can be separable, bound entangled or free entangled. We show that QFI exhibits a smooth and continues increase with respect to this parameter throughout the transition from separable to bound entangled and from bound entangled to free entangled regions. We show that in any region, this state is not useful for sub-shot noise interferometry. We also relate the QFI of this state with its geometric discord and show how these two properties exhibit a similar behavior throughout this transition.Yayın Freezing optical rogue waves by Zeno dynamics(Elsevier Science BV, 2018-04-15) Bayındır, Cihan; Özaydın, FatihWe investigate the Zeno dynamics of the optical rogue waves. Considering their usage in modeling rogue wave dynamics, we analyze the Zeno dynamics of the Akhmediev breathers, Peregrine and Akhmediev-Peregrine soliton solutions of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation. We show that frequent measurements of the wave inhibits its movement in the observation domain for each of these solutions. We analyze the spectra of the rogue waves under Zeno dynamics. We also analyze the effect of observation frequency on the rogue wave profile and on the probability of lingering of the wave in the observation domain. Our results can find potential applications in optics including nonlinear phenomena.
