Positive solutions for a sum-type singular fractional integro-differential equation with m-point boundary conditions
(Politechnica University of Bucharest, 2017) Aydoğan, Seher Melike; Nazemi, Sayyedeh Zahra; Rezapour, Shahram
We study the existence and uniqueness of positive solutions for a sum-type singular fractional integro-differential equation with m-point boundary condition. Also, we provide an example to illustrate our main result.

Reductions of topologically massive gravity I: Hamiltonian analysis of second order degenerate Lagrangians
(Amer Inst Physics, 2018-01) Uçgun, Filiz Çağatay; Esen, Oğul; Gümral, Hasan
We present Skinner-Rusk and Hamiltonian formalisms of second order degenerate Clement and Sarioglu-Tekin Lagrangians. The Dirac-Bergmann constraint algorithm is employed to obtain Hamiltonian realizations of Lagrangian theories. The Gotay-Nester-Hinds algorithm is used to investigate Skinner-Rusk formalisms of these systems.

Generalized circles in Weyl spaces and their conformal mapping
(Kossuth Lajos Tudomanyegyetem, Matematikai Intezet Nagyerdeikorut, 2002-02) Özdeğer, Abdülkadir; Şentürk, Zeliha
In this paper, generalized circles in a Weyl space are defined and the system of differential equations satisfied by them is obtained. Furthermore, after having given the necessary and sufficient conditions for generalized circles to be preserved under a conformal mapping we obtained a covariant tensor of type (0, 4) which is invariant under such a conformed mapping.

Discovering cis-regulatory modules by optimizing barbecues
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2009-05-28) Mosig, Axel; Bıyıkoğlu, Türker; Prohaska, Sonja J.; Stadler, Peter F.
Gene expression in eukaryotic cells is regulated by a complex network of interactions, in which transcription factors and their binding sites on the genomic DNA play a determining role. As transcription factors rarely, if ever, act in isolation, binding sites of interacting factors are typically arranged in close proximity forming so-called cis-regulatory modules. Even when the individual binding sites are known, module discovery remains a hard combinatorial problem, which we formalize here as the Best Barbecue Problem. It asks for simultaneously stabbing a maximum number of differently colored intervals from K arrangements of colored intervals. This geometric problem turns out to be an elementary, yet previously unstudied combinatorial optimization problem of detecting common edges in a family of hypergraphs, a decision version of which we show here to be NP-complete. Due to its relevance in biological applications, we propose algorithmic variations that are suitable for the analysis of real data sets comprising either many sequences or many binding sites. Being based on set systems induced by interval arrangements, our problem setting generalizes to discovering patterns of co-localized itemsets in non-sequential objects that consist of corresponding arrangements or induce set systems of co-localized items. In fact, our optimization problem is a generalization of the popular concept of frequent itemset mining.

Interactions of nonlinear waves in fluid-filled elastic tubes
(Verlag Z Naturforsch, 2007-02) Demiray, Hilmi
In this work, treating an artery as a prestressed thin-walled elastic tube and the blood as an inviscid fluid, the interactions of two nonlinear waves propagating in opposite directions are studied in the longwave approximation by use of the extended PLK (Poincare-Lighthill-Kuo) perturbation method. The results show that up to O(k(3)), where k is the wave number, the head-on collision of two solitary waves is elastic and the solitary waves preserve their original properties after the interaction. The leading-order analytical phase shifts and the trajectories of two solitons after the collision are derived explicitly.

An analysis of higher order terms for ion-acoustic waves by use of the modified Poincar,-Lighthill-Kuo method
    (Springer India, 2015-10) Demiray, Hilmi
In this work, by utilizing the modified Poincar,-Lighthill-Kuo (PLK) method, we studied the propagation of weakly nonlinear waves in a collisionless cold plasma and obtained the governing evolution equations of various order terms in the perturbation expansion. Seeking a progressive wave solution to these evolution equations we obtained the speed correction terms so as to remove some possible secularities. The result obtained here is exactly the same with those of the modified reductive perturbation and re-normalization methods. The method presented here is quite simple and based on introducing a new set of stretched coordinates.

A new theory of complex rays
(Oxford Univ Press, 2004-12) Hasanoğlu, Elman
A new approach to the theory of complex rays is presented. It is shown that the three-dimensional Minkowski space, the variant of the well known four-dimensional space-time Minkowski space of the special theory of relativity, is more appropriate for describing both real and complex rays than the usual Euclidean space. It turns out that in this space complex rays, as real ones, may have quite definite directions and magnitudes. This allows us to understand the geometrical meaning of the complex magnitudes such as complex distances and complex angles, intensively discussed over the last several decades. From this point of view a new interpretation of the Gaussian beams and reflection laws is presented.

    A Higher-order Boussinesq equation in locally non-linear theory of one-dimensional non-local elasticity
(Oxford Univ Press, 2009-02) Duruk, Nilay; Erkip, Albert; Erbay, Hüsnü Ata
In one space dimension, a non-local elastic model is based on a single integral law, giving the stress when the strain is known at all spatial points. In this study, we first derive a higher-order Boussinesq equation using locally non-linear theory of 1D non-local elasticity and then we are able to show that under certain conditions the Cauchy problem is globally well-posed.

Topological Hopf algebras and their Hopf-cyclic cohomology
(Taylor and Francis, 2019-01-29) Rangipour, Bahram; Sütlü, Serkan Selçuk
A natural extension of the Hopf-cyclic cohomology, with coefficients, is introduced to encompass topological Hopf algebras. The topological theory allows to work with infinite dimensional Lie algebras. Furthermore, the category of coefficients (AYD modules) over a topological Lie algebra and those over its universal enveloping (Hopf) algebra are isomorphic. For topological Hopf algebras, the category of coefficients is identified with the representation category of a topological algebra called the anti-Drinfeld double. Finally, a topological van Est type isomorphism is detailed, connecting the Hopf-cyclic cohomology to the relative Lie algebra cohomology with respect to a maximal compact subalgebra.

Timelike rotational surfaces of elliptic, hyperbolic and parabolic types in minkowski space E-1(4) with pointwise 1-type gauss map
(University of Nis, 2015) Bektaş, Burcu; Dursun, Uğur
In this work, we focus on a class of timelike rotational surfaces in Minkowski space E-1(4) with 2-dimensional axis. There are three types of rotational surfaces with 2-dimensional axis, called rotational surfaces of elliptic, hyperbolic or parabolic type. We obtain all flat timelike rotational surface of elliptic and hyperbolic types with pointwise 1-type Gauss map of the first and second kind. We also prove that there exists no flat timelike rotational surface of parabolic type in E-1(4) with pointwise 1-type Gauss map.
