Reductions of topologically massive gravity I: Hamiltonian analysis of second order degenerate Lagrangians
(Amer Inst Physics, 2018-01) Uçgun, Filiz Çağatay; Esen, Oğul; Gümral, Hasan
We present Skinner-Rusk and Hamiltonian formalisms of second order degenerate Clement and Sarioglu-Tekin Lagrangians. The Dirac-Bergmann constraint algorithm is employed to obtain Hamiltonian realizations of Lagrangian theories. The Gotay-Nester-Hinds algorithm is used to investigate Skinner-Rusk formalisms of these systems.

Synthesis and liquid crystalline behavior of random copolymer of poly(ethylene oxide) macromonomer and liquid crystalline monomer by the photon transmission technique
(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2005-12) Yıldız, Sevtap; Yılmaz, Faruk; Özbek, Haluk; Pekcan, Mehmet Önder; Ito, Koichi; Yağcı, Yusuf
Random copolymers of poly(ethylene oxide) macromonomer with p-vinylbenzyl end-functional group (PEOVB) and liquid crystalline monomer, namely 6-(4-cyanobiphenyl-4'-oxy)hexyl acrylate (COA), were prepared by conventional free radical polymerization. A living anionic polymerization technique was employed for the synthesis of PEO macromonomers bearing p-vinylbenzyl moiety at one end. The photon transmission method was also applied to study the phase transitions of COA monomer and its random copolymer with PEO. It was found that, for both samples, the nematic-smectic A transition is continuous, but the critical fluctuation regions do not allow to obtain 3D XY values. Instead, we have obtained the values close to mean field regime. Scaling of thermal hystersis for random copolymer sample near the nematic-isotropic transition was studied as well. Thermal hysteresis loops were produced under linearly varying temperature. It was shown that the areas of the hysteresis loops scale with the temperature scanning rate with an exponent being equal to 0.614 which is in good agreement with the field-theoretical value.

Spectral renormalization group for the Gaussian model and 𝜓4 theory on nonspatial networks
(American Physical Society, 2015-08-06) Tuncer, Aslı; Erzan, Ayşe
We implement the spectral renormalization group on different deterministic nonspatial networks without translational invariance. We calculate the thermodynamic critical exponents for the Gaussian model on the Cayley tree and the diamond lattice and find that they are functions of the spectral dimension, (d) over tilde. The results are shown to be consistent with those from exact summation and finite-size scaling approaches. At (d) over tilde = 2, the lower critical dimension for the Ising universality class, the Gaussian fixed point is stable with respect to a psi(4) perturbation up to second order. However, on generalized diamond lattices, non-Gaussian fixed points arise for 2 < <(d)over tilde> < 4.

Design of a global extremum seeking algorithm for an omni-directional robot model
(Romanian Soc Control Tech Informatics, 2017-06) Dinçmen, Erkin
A global extremum seeking algorithm is developed for a mobile robot model where the aim is to find the location of the most powerful signal source among the others. In other words, the control problem is to seek the global extremum point of a performance function when there are local extremas. The locations of the signal sources and signal distribution characteristics are unknown, i.e. the gradient of the performance function is unknown. The control algorithm also doesn't use any position measurement of the mobile robot itself. Henceforth, the controller is suitable for the missions where the robot moves in an unknown terrain with no GPS signal and no inertial measurements. Only the signal magnitude should be measured via a sensor mounted on the robot during the motion. A gradient estimator is designed to determine the motion direction towards the extremum point. When a local extremum is found, the robot will continue its search for another extremum points. Once each extremums have been visited, the robot will compare the signal levels on each source and identify the global extremum i.e. the most powerful signal source. In the absence of any position measurements, the robot can move towards the global extremum by repeating its motion history backwards. In the literature, this is the first global extremum seeking algorithm that has been developed for an omni-directional mobile robot model. Via the simulation studies it has been shown that the control algorithm can seek and find both stationary and non stationary signal sources and it can find the global extremum point when there are local extremas.

Tulczyjew's triplet with an Ehresmann connection I: Trivialization and reduction
(World Scientific, 2023-03-30) Esen, Oğul; Kudeyt, Mahmut; Sütlü, Serkan
We study the trivialization and the reduction of Tulczyjew's triplet, in the presence of a symmetry and an Ehresmann connection associated to it. We thus establish a geometric pathway for the Legendre transformations on singular dynamical systems.

Jointly optimal chunk and power allocation in uplink SC-FDMA
(IEEE, 2013) Mert, Teoman; Kaya, Onur; Çırpan, Hakan Ali
For a single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) system, we obtain the jointly optimal power and chunk allocation policies which maximize the sum rate. Our solution is applicable to both localized and interleaved subcarrier mapping schemes. We solve the joint optimization problem by sequentially solving two sub-problems: power allocation and chunk allocation. Primarily, we use an optimal power allocation algorithm, which we derive from Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions; and then we convert the optimum chunk assignment problem into a maximum weighted matching problem on a bipartite graph, and hence solve it in polynomial time. We also propose two greedy chunk allocation algorithms with lower complexity, and demonstrate that these algorithms produce near optimal results, especially for interleaved subcarrier mapping, when used in conjunction with optimal power control.

An analysis of stability of a class of neutral-type neural networks with discrete time delays
(Hindawi Publishing Corporation, 2013) Orman, Zeynep; Arik, Sabri
The problem of existence, uniqueness, and global asymptotic stability is considered for the class of neutral-type neural network model with discrete time delays. By employing a suitable Lyapunov functional and using the homeomorphism mapping theorem, we derive some new delay-independent sufficient conditions for the existence, uniqueness, and global asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point for this class of neutral-type systems. The obtained conditions basically establish some norm and matrix inequalities involving the network parameters of the neural system. The main advantage of the proposed results is that they can be expressed in terms of network parameters only. Some comparative examples are also given to compare our results with the previous corresponding results and demonstrate the effectiveness of the results presented.

Optimum power control for transmitter cooperation in OFDMA based wireless networks
(IEEE, 2011) Bakım, İsmail Sezi; Kaya, Onur
For a cooperative orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system with two transmitters (TXs), and full channel state information (CSI), we obtain the optimal power allocation (PA) policies which maximize the rate region achievable by a recently introduced version of block Markov superposition encoding (BMSE): inter-subchannel cooperative encoding (ISCE) [1]. We provide the optimality conditions that need to be satisfied by the powers associated with the transmitted codewords. We propose two algorithms that yield the optimal power distribution: a subgradient algorithm which achieves an arbitrary rate point on the achievable rate region boundary, and an iterative waterfilling-like algorithm which maximizes the sum rate, and converges much faster. We observe that, utilization of power control to take advantage of the diversity offered by the cooperative OFDMA system, not only leads to a remarkable improvement in achievable rates, but also may help determine how the subchannels have to be instantaneously allocated to various tasks in cooperation.

Photon transmission study on conformational ordering of iota-carrageenan in CaCl2 solution
(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2005-06) Kara, Selim; Pekcan, Mehmet Önder
Coil-to-double helix (c-h) and double helix-to-dimer (h-d) phase transitions of iota-carrageenan in CaCl2 solution upon cooling were studied using photon transmission technique. Photon transmission intensity, I-iota r was monitored against temperature to determine the (c-h) and (h-d) transition temperatures (T-ch and T-hd) and activation energies (Delta E-ch and Delta E-hd). An extra dimer-to-dimer (d-d) transition was also observed during cooling at low temperature region. However, upon heating dimers disappear to double helices by making dimer-to-double helix (d-h) transition. Further heating resulted double helix-to-coil (h-c) transition at high temperature region. T-dh and T-ch temperatures and Delta E-dh and Delta E-hc activation energies were also determined. It was observed that T-hc and T-ch temperatures and Delta E-dh and Delta E-hd activation energies do not effected by carrageenan content. However, T-hd, T-dh and T-dd temperatures and Delta E-ch and Delta E-hc activation energies were found to be strongly correlated to the carrageenan content in the system.

Achievable rates for two user cooperative OFDMA
(IEEE, 2010) Bakım, İsmail Sezi; Kaya, Onur
We propose two encoding strategies for a two user cooperative Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) system, based on block Markov superposition encoding. We obtain the expressions for the resulting achievable rate regions for both encoding strategies, and evaluate them through simulations. We show that, by allowing for re-partitioning and re-encoding of the cooperative messages across subchannels, it is possible to better exploit the diversity created by OFDMA, and higher rates can be achieved.
