Engineering four-qubit fuel states for protecting quantum thermalization machine from decoherence
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-01-10) Özaydın, Fatih; Sarkar, Ramita; Bayrakçı, Veysel; Bayındır, Cihan; Altıntaş, Azmi Ali; Müstecaplıoğlu, Özgür E.
Decoherence is a major issue in quantum information processing, degrading the performance of tasks or even precluding them. Quantum error-correcting codes, creating decoherence-free subspaces, and the quantum Zeno effect are among the major means for protecting quantum systems from decoherence. Increasing the number of qubits of a quantum system to be utilized in a quantum information task as a resource expands the quantum state space. This creates the opportunity to engineer the quantum state of the system in a way that improves the performance of the task and even to protect the system against decoherence. Here, we consider a quantum thermalization machine and four-qubit atomic states as its resource. Taking into account the realistic conditions such as cavity loss and atomic decoherence due to ambient temperature, we design a quantum state for the atomic resource as a classical mixture of Dicke and W states. We show that using the mixture probability as the control parameter, the negative effects of the inevitable decoherence on the machine performance almost vanish. Our work paves the way for optimizing resource systems consisting of a higher number of atoms.

(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2023-07-11) Seyis, Senem; Sönmez, Alperen Mert
Purpose The purpose of this study is to identify, classify and prioritize the benefits, challenges and risks for the integrated use of building information modeling (BIM), radio frequency identification (RFID) and wireless sensor network (WSN) in the architecture, engineering, construction and operation (AECO) industry. Design/methodology/approach This study relies on the mixed method approach which consists of systematic literature review, semistructured interviews and Delphi technique. A systematic literature review was performed and face-to-face semistructured interviews with seven subject matter experts (SMEs) were conducted for identification and classification purposes. Delphi method was applied in two structured rounds with eleven SMEs for prioritization purpose. These three research techniques were chosen to reach the most accurate data by combining different perspectives on the subject matter. Data gathered by these three methods was triangulated to increase the validity and reliability of this research. Findings Thirteen benefits, ten challenges and four risks for the integrated use of BIM, RFID and WSN were identified. The results could aid the practitioners and researchers comprehend the pros and cons of this integration by representing SMEs' valuable insights and perspectives about the current and future status, trends, limitations and requirements of the AECO industry. The identified risks and challenges show the requirements for future studies while the benefits demonstrate the capabilities and the potential contributions of this hybrid integration to the AECO industry. Originality/value The integration of BIM, RFID and WSN is still not commonly implemented in the AECO industry. Some studies focused on this topic; however, none of them reveals the benefits, risks and challenges for integrating BIM, RFID and WSN in a holistic manner. This research makes a significant contribution to the AECO literature and industry by uncovering the benefits, challenges and risks for the integrated use of BIM, RFID and WSN that could increase industry applications.

Examining psychological resilience and posttraumatic growth following terrorist attacks in Turkey
(American Psychological Association, 2021-06) İkizer, Gözde; Özel, Ebru Pelin
Acts of terrorism, being highly prevalent across the world, disrupt community and social functioning and can lead to negative psychological reactions in individuals. However, positive outcomes can also be evoked after adverse experiences. The current study aimed to explore two salutogenic or positive outcomes—resilience and posttraumatic growth (PTG)—following exposure to terrorist attacks. The sample included 331 university students who were exposed to a terrorist attack in Turkey during the last 18 months prior to data collection. Participants responded to the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, and a participant information form. The relationship between resilience and PTG was examined through correlation analysis and regression analyses with linear and quadratic components. Resilience and PTG were positively correlated. Tendency toward spirituality was the only resilience domain that was significantly correlated with all domains of growth. Total score of resilience was significantly associated with scores on all subscales of the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory except appreciation of life. Results indicated that only linear relationships existed between domains of resilience and PTG in the study sample. The positive and linear association between resilience and PTG suggests that resilience may be an important tool for facilitating growth. After terrorist attacks, mental health care planning should adopt a patient-centered approach that acknowledges the possibility of positive outcomes following traumatic events and focuses on the impact as well as recovery phases in traumatized individuals.

A split-step Fourier scheme for the dissipative Kundu-Eckhaus equation and its rogue wave dynamics
(Işık University Press, 2021-01) Bayındır, Cihan; Yurtbak, Hazal
We investigate the rogue wave dynamics of the dissipative Kundu-Eckhaus equation. With this motivation, we propose a split-step Fourier scheme for its numerical solution. After testing the accuracy and stability of the scheme using an analytical solution as a benchmark problem, we analyze the chaotic wave fields generated by the modulation instability within the frame of the dissipative Kundu-Eckhaus equation. We discuss the effects of various parameters on rogue wave formation probability and we also discuss the role of dissipation on occurrences of such waves.

Mindfulness in the relationship between perceived stress and quality of life in pediatric asthma
(İstanbul Üniversitesi, 2023-03-27) Ayhan, Ayşe Sena; Aktan, Zekeriya Deniz; Ülker Tamay, Zeynep
Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the possible mediatör effect of mindfulness in the relationship between perceived stress and quality of life in pediatric asthma. Material and Method: The sample of this study consisted of 100 asthmatic children aged between 9-12 years who applied to the outpatient clinic of Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Division of Pediatric Allergy. Sociodemographic information forms, Perceived Stress Scale in Children (8-11 years), Child and Adolescent Mindfulness Measure (CAMM), and Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (PAQLQ) were used as data collection tools. Linear hierarchical regression analysis was used during the process of analyzing data. Results: It has been identified that mindfulness has a partial mediatör effect on the relationship between perceived stress and quality of life (p = 0.000). The presence of a partial mediator effect of mindfulness has been determined in the relationship between perceived stress and symptoms which is the subscale of quality of life (p = 0.000). Finally, it has been demonstrated that mindfulness has a partial mediator effect on the relationship between perceived stress and emotional function which is another subscale of quality of life (p = 0.000). The mediating role of mindfulness in the relationship between perceived stress and activity limitations could not be analyzed due to the lack of a significant correlation between activity limitations which is the subscale of quality of life and mindfulness (p=0.178). Conclusion: It can be helpful to add psychotherapy interventions involving mindfulness practices to asthma treatment for better control of the disease in children.

Causal links between patents and economic growth: empirical evidence from OECD countries
(Universidade Nove de Julho-UNINOVE, 2024-08) Özkan Yıldız, Öznur; Görkey, Selda
Objective of the Study: This paper empirically investigates the reciprocal relationship and causality between patents and economic growth. Methodology/Approach: Utilizing the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) Panel Vector Autoregression (PVAR) and panel VAR-Granger Causality frameworks, the study concentrates on Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) economies where a high fraction of global innovative activities take place. Originality/Relevance: The relationship and causality between patents and economic growth are investigated and evaluated by distinguishing the former variable into patent applications and grants. Main Results: The findings from the GMM panel VAR approach indicate that patent applications and grants significantly affect economic growth, whereas economic activities do not influence patent-related variables. The estimations from the panel VAR-Granger approach confirm these findings by presenting a unidirectional causality from patent applications and grants to economic growth. The impulse-response functions (IRFs) exhibit parallel findings, and further checks validate the stability of the findings obtained. The outcomes of this study point out two crucial implications. First, the impacts of patent applications and grants affect economic growth similarly while the impact of patent grants lasts longer. Second, while patents cause higher economic activity, the latter does not induce innovative activity through patents in the OECD. Theoretical/Methodological Contributions: It would be useful to conduct separate analyses for a selected product, sector, or country by including research and development (R&D) expenditures for different periods, country groups, and analysis methods. Social/Management Contributions: Countries should prioritize the establishment of an effective patent management system that will increase the pace of innovation and the implementation of incentive policies for the development of high-value-added technology products.

The mediating role of schema modes in the relationship between parentification and codependency
(SAGE Publications Inc., 2025-07) Ünver, Buket; Önürme, Güneş Beyza
The aim of this study is to examine the mediating role of schema modes between parentification in different roles and codependency. The sample of the study consists of 599 Turkish women aged between 18 and 64. Firstly, Pearson correlation analysis was conducted, revealing that most of the variables were significantly correlated. Secondly, mediating analysis was performed. The results showed that vulnerable child, angry child, compliant surrender, and demanding parent modes mediated the relationship between parent-focused parentification and codependency. The relationship between sibling-focused parentification and codependency was found to be mediated by the happy child, punitive parent, and demanding parent mode. These findings indicate that parentification in different roles are associated with codependency in women through distinct schema modes, with the exception of the demanding parent mode, which appeared in both paths. Furthermore, the results highlight that disruptions in the hierarchical structure of the early parent-child relationship shapes emotional and cognitive structures in adulthood, potentially contributing to the development of dysfunctional relationship dynamics.

Performance outcomes of supply chain management practices: evidence from Pakistan's fan manufacturing SMEs
(University of Novi Sad, 2025-12-01) Akbay, Ümmühan; Hafeez, Muhammad Salman
This study examines the impact of supply chain management practices on the organization’s marketing and financial performance. We present the results of a survey conducted with 100 Pakistani fan manufacturing firms. Statistical analysis reveals that the industry struggles with information sharing and joint operations within the supply chain. PLS-SEM analysis of the survey data shows that supply chain performance is significantly correlated with organizational performance. Both customer and supplier relationship management have positive and significant effects on the performance of the supply chain and the organization. However, the impact of customer relationship management is stronger as its path coefficient is greater. Additionally, although internal supply chain management also impacts both supply chain and organization performance positively, the impact is slightly short of being statistically significant. This study contributes to the supply chain management literature by providing empirical evidence from an understudied manufacturing sector from a developing country.
