Introducing a set of stretched coordinates which include some unknown functions characterizing the higher order dispersive effects and the trajectory functions to be determined from the removal of possible secularities that might occur in the solution. Expanding these unknown functions and the field variables into power series of the smallness parameter epsilon and introducing the resulting expansions into the field equations we obtained the sets of partial differential equations. By solving these differential equations and imposing the requirements for the removal of possible secularities we obtained the speed correction terms and the trajectory functions. The results of our calculation show that both the evolution equations and the phase shifts resulting from the head-on collision of solitary waves are quite different from those of Xue [15], who employed the incorrect formulation of Su and Mirie [4]. As opposed to the result of previous works on the same subject, in the present work the phase shifts depend on the amplitudes of both colliding waves.Yayın The dynamic relationship between technological change and employment: a comparison of youth and total employment using panel VAR approach and causality analysis(Sosyoekonomi Derneği, 2022-10) Görkey, SeldaThis study empirically examines the relationship and causality between technological change and employment by comparing youth and total employment. It covers data from 16 OECD economies from 1985 to 2018 and uses multifactor productivity (MFP) as a proxy for technological change. The findings from the general method of moments panel vector autoregression (GMM Panel-VAR) approach indicate significant and positive effects of MFP on youth and total employment, and a significant yet negative impact of youth employment on MFP. According to Panel-VAR-Granger- Causality analysis results, there is a two-way causality between MFP and youth employment and a one-way causality from MFP to total employment. Thus, this study empirically confirms the jobcreation effect of technology and finds out that the technological change and employment nexus differs for youth employment compared to that for total employment.Yayın From past to present: spam detection and identifying opinion leaders in social networks(Yildiz Teknik Univ., 2022-06-22) Altınel Girgin, Ayşe Berna; Gümüşçekiçci, GizemOn microblogging sites, which are gaining more and more users every day, a wide range of ideas are quickly emerging, spreading, and creating interactive environments. In some cases, in Turkey as well as in the rest of the world, it was noticed that events were published on microblogging sites before appearing in visual, audio and printed news sources. Thanks to the rapid flow of information in social networks, it can reach millions of people in seconds. In this context, social media can be seen as one of the most important sources of information affecting public opinion. Since the information in social networks became accessible, research started to be conducted using the information on the social networks. While the studies about spam detection and identification of opinion leaders gained popularity, surveys about these topics began to be published. This study also shows the importance of spam detection and identification of opinion leaders in social networks. It is seen that the data collected from social platforms, especially in recent years, has sourced many state-of-art applications. There are independent surveys that focus on filtering the spam content and detecting influencers on social networks. This survey analyzes both spam detection studies and opinion leader identification and categorizes these studies by their methodologies. As far as we know there is no survey that contains approaches for both spam detection and opinion leader identification in social networks. This survey contains an overview of the past and recent advances in both spam detection and opinion leader identification studies in social networks. Furthermore, readers of this survey have the opportunity of understanding general aspects of different studies about spam detection and opinion leader identification while observing key points and comparisons of these studies.Yayın An approximate wave solution for perturbed KDV and dissipative NLS equations: weighted residual method(Işık University Press, 2019-06-21) Demiray, HilmiIn the present work, we modified the conventional "weighted residual method" to some nonlinear evolution equations and tried to obtain the approximate progressive wave solutions for these evolution equations. For the illustration of the method we studied the approximate progressive wave solutions for the perturbed KdV and the dissipative NLS equations. The results obtained here are in complete agreement with the solutions of inverse scattering method. The present solutions are even valid when the dissipative effects are considerably large. The results obtained are encouraging and the method can be used to study the cylindrical and spherical evolution equations.Yayın God, man, and nature: life for reason and the reason behind the universe - a panentheistic approach to life of pi(De Gruyter, 2021-11-08) Edman, Timuçin Buğra; Gözen, HacerThis article intends to lay out a comparative study of Karma philosophy and literature scrutinizing Yann Martel's novel Life of Pi through a panentheistic approach. Because Karma is one of the predominant philosophies in the novel and permeates the general atmosphere, this article intends to scrutinize Yann Martel's novel Life of Pi through a panentheistic approach. Although karma is a very complex issue, since anyone committing evil acts can claim to be a mere agent of karma delivering punishment to others for sins they committed in their past lives, it is true that according to karma, our actions have consequences which affect the entirety of our lives, and this can also be seen as free will. Yet while this approach tends to focus on the action and reaction mechanisms of life, the flow of life in the universe should still be carefully contemplated, since if we believe the first story, Pi's survival not only depends on his choices, but also on the opportunities that the universe offers him. In that sense, if we are to accept God as the soul of the universe, then the universal spirit must be omnipresent and omnipotent while also capable of transforming into anything in terms of s panentheistic approach. Thus God, being greater than the universe, is the ultimate force that balances everything, and is also the biggest karma controller. For this reason, this article analyzes Life of Pi from both inductive and deductive slants to demonstrate that all roads lead to God, the omniscient.Yayın Using the ultrasonic stress wave technique to evaluate structural timber members of an old masonry building(Kastamonu Univ, Orman Fak, 2018) Koca, Gülru; Dündar, Türker; As, NusretAim of study: The main objective of this study is to evaluate the current state of the structural timber members of an old masonry building by using destructive and non-destructive test methods and to determine the efficiency of non-destructive test methods by obtaining correlations between destructive and non-destructive test parameters. Area of study: Specimens were extracted from different parts of an old semi-detached masonry building in Istanbul, Turkey. The building was built at the beginning of the 20th century in Kadikoy, a residential district in the Asia side of Istanbul. Material and Methods: Ultrasonic stress wave test was carried out on specimens prepared from the structural members. Following the ultrasonic based non-destructive tests, the bending strength and modulus of elasticity in the bending tests were determined for the specimens. Main results: According to the results of the experiments, it was observed that the regression correlations were high for the softwoods (fir and spruce), but relatively lower correlations were obtained for the chestnut specimens. Highlights: Because of the good R-2 values obtained between the MOED and mechanical properties of the softwoods, the non-destructive stress wave technique can be recommended for the evaluation of softwoods in structures. Although chestnut showed very good mechanical properties, a satisfactory evaluation of the chestnut members could not be obtained because of the small number of specimens. Further investigation is needed with large sample groups.
