Yayın Using the ultrasonic stress wave technique to evaluate structural timber members of an old masonry building(Kastamonu Univ, Orman Fak, 2018) Koca, Gülru; Dündar, Türker; As, NusretAim of study: The main objective of this study is to evaluate the current state of the structural timber members of an old masonry building by using destructive and non-destructive test methods and to determine the efficiency of non-destructive test methods by obtaining correlations between destructive and non-destructive test parameters. Area of study: Specimens were extracted from different parts of an old semi-detached masonry building in Istanbul, Turkey. The building was built at the beginning of the 20th century in Kadikoy, a residential district in the Asia side of Istanbul. Material and Methods: Ultrasonic stress wave test was carried out on specimens prepared from the structural members. Following the ultrasonic based non-destructive tests, the bending strength and modulus of elasticity in the bending tests were determined for the specimens. Main results: According to the results of the experiments, it was observed that the regression correlations were high for the softwoods (fir and spruce), but relatively lower correlations were obtained for the chestnut specimens. Highlights: Because of the good R-2 values obtained between the MOED and mechanical properties of the softwoods, the non-destructive stress wave technique can be recommended for the evaluation of softwoods in structures. Although chestnut showed very good mechanical properties, a satisfactory evaluation of the chestnut members could not be obtained because of the small number of specimens. Further investigation is needed with large sample groups.Yayın Gamification of design studio in the context of a user-centered design workshop(ASLERD, 2023-09) Karadağ, DeryaIn project studios and workshops, students from many design disciplines, such as architectural, interior, and industrial design, apply theory and practice. Its negative impact not only changed the human health system tragically but also disrupted the global economic system. One negative result was ended up in the global food supply chain. As the lockdown times have suspended the manufacturing and logistic activities, therefore, the customers have experienced unimaginable chaos in the shopping markets. Moreover, the purchasing habit of the consumers has remarkably changed compared to pre-pandemic. To meet this new demand pattern, many grocery retailers have tried to adapt to the new normal. While before COVID-19 offline grocery purchasing was popular, after the pandemic, online service got tremendous attention in market. In this study, online grocery supply chain management during the COVID-19 in Istanbul is considered. The aim is to find out how online grocery companies will serve more efficiently during the pandemics and which factors have more effect on the customer’s satisfaction. To do so, first, three popular grocery retailers in Istanbul were selected. Then, a related survey was designed to understand the consumer experience as doing online grocery shopping in COVID-19. Unsurprisingly, a result shows that 60% of the respondents did online shopping every 3-4 days in one week, and the delivery time is the most important factor for the customers. Then, the SWOT analyses were performed accordingly, and the related strategies were summarized. Finally, several managerial implications were given to may improve the company’s online services in COVID-19 and post COVID-19 in Turkey.Yayın A new local path planning approach by synthesis of PRM and RRT* algorithms for an autonomous mobile robot(Springer, 2025-02) Göktaş, Anıl Gökhan; Sezer, SemihMany research efforts have been and continue to be carried out to make human life easier through the use of new technologies. The ability to shift labor to non-humans and reduce the workforce demonstrates the scope of innovation. In this investigation, a new approach is proposed to address several shortcomings of the PRM and RRT algorithms used for path planning in mobile robots. The proposed approach differs by building markers around it, avoiding dynamic obstacles and providing a shorter path. Simulation studies of the PRM and RRT* algorithms, along with the Circular Nodes (CN) approach, were conducted in real and virtual environments. Meanwhile, experimental studies for the CN approach were carried out in a real environment, with obstacles. When compared to other methods, the proposed approach has demonstrated an increase in node efficiency by up to five times. Moreover, implementing node points that are approximately 10% of those used in the PRM and RRT* algorithms has resulted in a shorter path. The reduction in the number of nodes and path length leads to a reduction in energy consumption and processing power.Yayın Advanced drought analysis using a novel copula-based multivariate index: a case study of the Ceyhan River Basin(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2025-02) Terzi, Tolga Barış; Önöz, BihratDrought is a severe natural disaster that poses significant risks to both social and ecological systems. Detecting drought is challenging due to its gradual development, which makes it difficult to identify and predict, often resulting in significant impacts on the affected regions. Therefore, accurate and dependable monitoring of drought conditions is essential for the development and implementation of effective mitigation strategies. Drought indices play a crucial role in monitoring drought conditions, with single-variable indices commonly employed in the literature to evaluate drought severity. While these indices are typically effective at characterizing the specific type of drought for which they were designed, they often fall short in offering a comprehensive view of overall drought conditions. The multivariate standardized drought index (MSDI) is a comprehensive tool that assesses drought conditions by integrating multiple hydrometeorological variables. Widely employed in the literature in both parametric and empirical forms, the MSDI is recognized for its effectiveness in detecting drought in an integrated manner. This study focuses on a particular challenge related to the calculation of MSDI using copula families. The novel methodology introduced in this paper involves selecting the most suitable copula family for each data subset using AIC and BIC criteria. Rather than applying a single copula family to the entire dataset, this approach utilizes multiple copula families for different subsets, thereby ensuring optimal modeling for each distinct group of data. The Ceyhan River Basin (CRB) is used as a case study to apply the proposed methodology. The drought characteristics of the basin are analyzed using both the newly developed MSDI and conventional single-variable indices, and the performance of the new methodology is evaluated. The application of this approach in the CRB demonstrated its effectiveness in identifying both concurrent and isolated occurrences of meteorological and hydrological droughts, thereby facilitating a more integrated and precise assessment of drought characteristics. Results indicated that the proposed MSDI detected drought events that were overlooked by single-variable indices and improved classification accuracy over the conventional MSDI.Yayın Emotion dysregulation as a mediator between parental emotional availability and game addiction among Turkish late adolescents(Routledge, 2025-02) Ülkümen, İpek; Aktan, Zekeriya DenizThis study aimed to examine how difficulty in emotion regulation mediates the relationship between parental emotional availability and game addiction among Turkish late adolescents. 537 adolescents completed the Lum Emotional Availability of Parents, the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale, Internet Gaming Disorder Short Form, and Sociodemographic Characteristics and Data Form. SA is the process of textual mining in which the meaning of a text is detected and extracted. One of the key aspects of SA is to analyze the body of a text to determine its polarity to understand the opinions it expresses. Substantial amounts of data are produced by online resources such as social media sites, blogs, news sites, etc. Due to this reason, it is impossible to process all of this data without automated systems, which has contributed to the rise in popularity of SA in recent years. SA is considered to be extremely essential, mostly due to its ability to analyze mass opinions. SA, and Natural Language Processing (NLP) in particular, has become an overwhelmingly popular topic as social media usage has increased. The data collected from social media has sourced numerous different SA studies due to being versatile and accessible to the masses. This survey presents a comprehensive study categorizing past and present studies by their employed methodologies and levels of sentiment. In this survey, Turkish SA studies were categorized under three sections. These are Dictionary-based, Machine Learning-based, and Hybrid-based. Researchers can discover, compare, and analyze properties of different Turkish SA studies reviewed in this survey, as well as obtain information on the public dataset and the dictionaries used in the studies. The main purpose of this study is to combine Turkish SA approaches and methods while briefly explaining its concepts. This survey uniquely categorizes a large number of related articles and visualizes their properties. To the best of our knowledge, there is no such comprehensive and up-to-date survey that strictly covers Turkish SA which mainly concerns analysis of sentiment levels. Furthermore, this survey contributes to the literature due to its unique property of being the first of its kind.Yayın Best proximity point theorems in non-Archimedean Menger probabilistic spaces(University of Kragujevac, Faculty of Science, 2024) Karaaslan, Arife Aysun; Karakaya, VatanIn this work, we prove best proximity point theorems for γ-contractions with conditions the weak P-property in non-Archimedean Menger probabilistic metric spaces. Art therapy (AT) has emerged as a promising intervention. This study systematically reviews and analyzes the effectiveness of AT in improving QoL, anxiety, and pain in this population. A comprehensive search identified a total of 12 randomized controlled trials from 2000 to 2024, including 408 participants aged 0–18. Data were analyzed using Hedges’ g and a random-effects model. Quality assessments followed the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 (RoB2) tool. Subgroup analyses explored potential moderators. QoL was analyzed separately by child and parent reports. AT showed a moderate, significant effect on child-reported QoL (Hedges’ g =.40, 95% CI [0.27; 0.53], p =.001) but a non-significant effect in parent reports (Hedges’ g =.43, 95% CI [−.03; 1.20], p =.21). A significant large effect was found for pain reduction (Hedges’ g = –.63, 95% CI [−1.19; −0.07], p =.03). For anxiety, AT had a large but non-significant effect (Hedges’ g = –.71, 95% CI [−2.24; 0.82], p =.23). Heterogeneity was substantial, but no significant publication bias was detected. AT appears promising for enhancing QoL, reducing pain in children with chronic illnesses. Further studies are needed to strengthen evidence and clarify clinical applications.Yayın The mediating role of schema modes in the relationship between parentification and codependency(SAGE Publications Inc., 2025-07) Ünver, Buket; Önürme, Güneş BeyzaThe aim of this study is to examine the mediating role of schema modes between parentification in different roles and codependency. The sample of the study consists of 599 Turkish women aged between 18 and 64. Firstly, Pearson correlation analysis was conducted, revealing that most of the variables were significantly correlated. Secondly, mediating analysis was performed. The results showed that vulnerable child, angry child, compliant surrender, and demanding parent modes mediated the relationship between parent-focused parentification and codependency. The relationship between sibling-focused parentification and codependency was found to be mediated by the happy child, punitive parent, and demanding parent mode. These findings indicate that parentification in different roles are associated with codependency in women through distinct schema modes, with the exception of the demanding parent mode, which appeared in both paths. Furthermore, the results highlight that disruptions in the hierarchical structure of the early parent-child relationship shapes emotional and cognitive structures in adulthood, potentially contributing to the development of dysfunctional relationship dynamics.
