New criteria for the existence of stable equilibrium points in nonsymmetric cellular neural networks
(2003) Özcan, Neyir; Arık, Sabri; Tavşanoğlu, Ahmet Vedat
This paper presents new criteria for the existence of stable equilibrium points in the total saturation region for cellular neural networks (CNNs). It is shown that the results obtained can be used to derive some complete stability conditions for some special classes of CNNs such as positive cell-linking CNNs, opposite-sign CNNs and dominant-template CNNs. Our results are also compared with the previous results derived in the literature for the existence of stable equilibrium points for CNNs.

On Caputo fractional Bertrand curves in E3 and E31
(Univ Nis, Fac Sci Math, 2024) Taşdemir, Mert; Canfes, Elif Özkara; Uzun, Banu
In this article, we examine Bertrand curves in E3 and E31 by using the Caputo fractional derivative which we call alpha-Bertrand Curves. First, we consider alpha-Bertrand curves in E3 and we give a characterization of them. Then, we study alpha-Bertrand curves in E31 and we prove the necessary and sufficient condition for a alpha-Bertrand curves in E31 by considering time like, space like and null curves. We also give the related examples by using Python.

A social democratic party in Istanbul during the post-armistice years
(Suna ve İnan Kıraç Vakfı Kültür ve Sanat İşletmesi, 2022-12-31) Ülker, Erol
The future founder of the Social Democratic Party (Sosyal Demokrat Fırkası, SDF), Doctor Hasan Rıza’s (bin Esat) relationship with the socialist movement began during the Second Constitutional Period.1 A permanent member of the Medical Society, Dr. Hasan Rıza resigned from the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP) with a letter he wrote in January 1911.2 He subsequently adopted socialism, and in 1913–1914 contacted the Socialist International to inquire how to become a member of the organization.3 The SDF, however, was not established during this period, but following World War I, which ended in defeat for the Ottoman Empire. The socialist parties and groups founded at the beginning of the Second Constitutional Period could not survive in the authoritarian political atmosphere that emerged after the assassination of Mahmut Şevket Pasha in July 1913 and could only begin a reorganization process once the CUP government, which had been ruling unilaterally since January 1913, fell from power. At the end of 1918, the SDF was among the first leftist parties to emerge during this period.4 In addition to Dr. Hasan Rıza, who was listed as the leader of the party in its founding application, twelve other people are mentioned (fig. 1).

Paradox of optimism: opposition coordination against autocratic incumbents in Turkey’s 2019 and 2023 elections
(Routledge, 2024) Balta, Evren; Demiralp, Seda
In the 2019 local and 2023 general elections, Turkey’s opposition parties joined forces in pursuit of a common objective: to oust autocratic incumbents and democratize the political system. While they achieved noteworthy successes in 2019, replicating these gains in the 2023 presidential and parliamentary elections proved elusive. This study reveals that coordinating opposition efforts becomes more challenging during general elections, particularly when a charismatic presidential candidate, capable of fostering synergy among opposition factions and voters, is absent. Additionally, when opposition parties span the ideological spec-trum, crafting a unified campaign around a shared manifesto becomes more intricate. The resulting atmosphere of uncertainty is exacerbated further in the absence of decisive leadership. Most importantly, the research highlights a paradox: as optimism for electoral victory grows, parties become more inclined to form alliances but less willing to nominate a strong leader, due to con-cerns about power-sharing overshadowing electoral success. This paradox diminishes the chances of opposition victory.

The comparison of psychological factors and executive functions of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome to ADHD and ADHD comorbid with Oppositional Defiant Disorder
(SAGE Publications Inc., 2024-10) İnci İzmir, Sevim Berrin; Aktan, Zekeriya Deniz; Ercan, Eyüp Sabri
Objective: The study aims to examine family functionality, emotion regulation difficulties, preference for loneliness, social exclusion, internalizing and externalizing disorders, and executive functions in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome (CDS) and compare with ADHD, and ADHD+ Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). Method: This study included 842 children aged 8–12 years. The subjects were categorized according to DSM-V as ADHD (n = 246), ADHD + ODD (n = 212), ADHD + CDS (n = 176), and Control group (n = 207). The solitude and social exclusion, difficulties in emotion dysregulation and Barkley SCT scales, Child Behavior Checklist, family assessment device, and Central Vital Signs (CNSVS) test were used. Results: According to the study, children with ADHD + CDS had higher rates of internalizing disorders. They also preferred being alone and experienced more difficulty communicating with their parents and solving problems within the family. Additionally, these children had difficulty recognizing and understanding the emotional reactions of others. The ADHD + ODD group presented a poorer performance on CNSVS domain tests except for the psychomotor speed test than other groups. Also, ADHD + CDS children had the lowest psychomotor speed scores and lower scores on reaction time and cognitive flexibility than pure ADHD children. Conclusion: This study will contribute to the etiology, treatment, and clinical discrimination of ADHD + CDS.

Effect of modulated anodal stimulation over the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex on working memory: a preliminary study
(Istanbul University, 2025-12-31) Küçük, Zeynep; Erdoğan, Ezgi Tuna; Kurt, Adnan; Karamürsel, Sacit
Objectives: Working memory has two components: temporary storage and manipulation of the information necessary for cognitive behavior through the central executive system. This study aimed to investigate the effects of modulated anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (mtDCS) of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex on working memory. Materials and Methods: Twelve volunteers without neurological or psychiatric disorders and without drug use participated. Working memory performance was assessed with a visual 3-back task using consonant letters during stimulation. A 20/minute training session was conducted to facilitate learning, and participants who achieved an accuracy rate of 50% or higher proceeded to the main experiment. Four stimulation conditions were applied, each lasting 10 minutes: mtDCS-11 Hz and mtDCS-22 Hz (1.70 mA offset, 0.35 mA peak/to/peak), direct current (DC) (2 mA), and sham. Reaction times and total correct responses were recorded. Results: Statistical analysis of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) stimulation revealed a significant difference in the mean numbers of correct responses among the mtDCS and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) conditions, but not compared with sham. The mean number of correct responses under mtDCS-11Hz and mtDCS-22Hz was significantly lower than under DC stimulation; however the performance decrement under 11 Hz mtDCS was the most pronounced among the active conditions. Conclusion: mtDCS-11Hz and mtDCS-22Hz negated the subtle facilitation of tDCS might have provided.
