Yayın Failure of an exchange-rate-based stabilization plan in Turkey(M E Sharpe, 2003-02) Gökkent, Giyas; Moslares, Carlos; Amiel-Saenz, RafaelThe Turkish exchange-rate-based stabilization plan adopted in 2000 has been a spectacular failure, lasting a mere fourteen months despite a relatively flexible peg regime and preannounced exit strategy. The final three months of the currency regime were marred by the eruption of a banking sector crisis that quickly developed into a currency crisis, quelled only by external loans and a blanket guarantee by the sovereign of all banking sector liabilities. This was ultimately to no avail as the lira was allowed to float following a full-fledged currency crisis in late February 2001. The usual indicators of crisis did not point to imminent turmoil in November 2000 despite widespread concern about eventual dire developments. To identify the source of the November crisis, one must weigh the factors that led economic agents, and banks in particular, to expect higher interest rates after the fall.Yayın A note on the examination of the fisher hypothesis by using panel co-integration tests with break(Institute foe Economic Forecasting, 2016) Omay, Tolga; Hasanov, Mübariz; Yüksel, Aslı; Yüksel, AydınOne problem encountered when examining the Fisher hypothesis is that various policy changes and economic shocks may induce structural shifts in the long-run relation. We explore the argument that panel cointegration tests based on common correlated effect estimators have reasonably good power and size properties, even in the presence of structural breaks, if the timing of structural shifts roughly coincide to each other across individual group members. Using the data from Omay et al. (2015), which pays special attention to cross-section dependence issue but ignores the possibility of structural break in the data, we provide support to the argument above.Yayın Making winners: Urban transformation and neoliberal populism in Turkey(Middle East Institute, 2018-12) Demiralp, SedaThis study focuses on the distribution of the costs and benefits of Turkey's urban policy. Since 2002, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government has embraced an ambitious form of capitalism that privatized the benefits of urban transformation while socializing its costs. The government has also adopted populist strategies that enhanced its political support among upper- and lower-income groups and left urban transformation's costs to fall disproportionally on the middle class. Yayın The mediator role of negative cognitive emotion regulation strategies between interpersonal problems and borderline personality beliefs(Springer, 2021-09) Akyunus, Miray; Gençöz, Tülin; Karaköse Çelik, SelinInterpersonal difficulties and emotion regulation are the core characteristics of borderline personality disorders (BPD). However, how emotion regulation strategies contribute to the association between interpersonal problems and borderline personality symptomatology have not been highlighted within cognitive theory. The current study aims to examine the mediator role of cognitive emotion regulation strategies between interpersonal problems and borderline personality beliefs. The study consisted of 648 (381 women and 267 male) people from Turkey. In addition to Socio-Demographic Form, Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ), Inventory of Interpersonal Problems Circumplex Scales (IIP-32), and Borderline Personality Belief Subscale (BPBS) were used to collect data from participants. Results showed that negative cognitive emotion regulation strategies, particularly catastrophizing, blaming-others and self-blame, mediated interpersonal problems, and borderline personality beliefs. Since the current study used thought-based assessment, the findings provide enlightening information to understand the underlying cognitive processes of the borderline personality pattern, and promising clinical implications to improve intervention programs within cognitive therapy approaches.Yayın Turkish validity and reliability study of the childhood illness attitude scale(Routledge, 2025-03) Aktan, Zekeriya Deniz; İnci İzmir, Sevim Berrin; Ünlü, Beyza; Yılmaz Kahraman, İpek SuSevere forms of health anxiety cause serious dysfunction in people’s lives. Childhood Illness Attitude Scales (CIAS) is an assessment tool used to evaluate childhood health anxiety yet has not been validated for use in Turkey. The study aimed to examine the psychometric properties and factor structure of the Turkish version of the CIAS (CIAS-TR). The scale was administered to 306 children aged between 8 and 15 years. In addition to the CIAS-TR, participants were asked to complete the Screen for Child Anxiety-Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL). To measure test-retest reliability, CIAS-TR was completed by participants 15 days later. Results demonstrated good psychometric properties with high internal consistency and test-retest reliability. A positive correlation with SCARED and a negative correlation with PedsQL. Results from Confirmatory Factor Analysis suggested that a four-factor model best fit the data. The findings of the study indicate that the Turkish adaptation of the CIAS is an appropriate tool for assessing health anxiety in children.Yayın 20th Biennial Conference of the International Planning History Society 2–5 July 2024 (Hong Kong) prizes and awards(Routledge, 2024-11-01) Gülersoy, Nuran ZerenThe winners of the IPHS 2024 Prize and Awards were announced at the Awards Ceremony at the Hong Kong Conference on 4 July 2024. Sharpe Inc, 2012-12) Koloğlugil, Serhat; Koloğlugil, SerhatFree software, unlike proprietary software under exclusive copyright control, exemplifies a form of productive and innovative activity that is based upon mutual sharing of technological knowledge. Free software engineers, who get connected through various software-development projects, voluntarily contribute their time and skills to produce computer programs which, they insist, should be free for anyone to use, modify, and distribute. This paper argues that Thorstein Veblen's socio-economic theory - in particular his conceptions of capital, technological knowledge and institutional change - offers a fruitful framework to analyze the emergence of free software as an economic and social phenomenon. From the Veblenian perspective, the free software movement argues that the technological knowledge in the software industry should freely be available to society as a part of its common stock of knowledge. In other words, they are against the use of copyright law as a predatory strategy by software corporations, while the current technological conditions in the software industry allow for an institutional arrangement of production and innovation based on cooperative habits of thought.
