Yayın A study on customer perceptions and attitudes towards digital coupons(İzmir Katip Çelebi Üniversitesi, 2021-12-15) Akman, Yasemin; Türkmen, Hediye GamzeDigital coupons, generally considered as a marketing strategy to increase sales and customer loyalty, are important elements in the observation of customer attitudes and perceptions. The main question in the literature is whether these coupons should be redeemed or not, and their effectiveness is discussed depending on their use. However, even if digital coupons are not redeemed after they are acquired in online environments, the way they are obtained or perceived can provide marketers with information about customer attitudes and behaviors. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of digital coupons in digital business models based on consumers' perceptions and attitudes. Attitudes towards digital discount coupons were examined using 10 different dimensions and how these dimensions were influenced by various variables was questioned. The study surveyed 300 participants. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that the impact of digital coupons on online purchase behavior should be considered from a holistic perspective. Accordingly, other benefits that coupons create for sellers should not be overlooked in addition to coupon redemption.Yayın The relation between geographical place and innovativeness: the case of Turkey(Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi, 2014-05-26) Falcıoğlu, PınarA line of argument in the new growth economy discussions is whether specialization or diversification of economic activity on the geographical scale stimulates innovation. This study explores the relation between innovativeness and different types of geographical concentrations in the case of a developing country. The study addresses the discussion through statistical and econometric analyses using variables such as number of patents, new firm entry and exit at the regional level for the period 1995-2001. The results do not confirm that regions with higher levels of related variety or specialization are more innovative, but instead regions with higher levels of variety are found to be more innovative supporting the diversity thesis.Yayın Motif-oriented characteristics of the Turkish carpets illustrated in English aristocratic portrays of renaissance and effects of the carpets on British carpet production(Ahmet Kara, 2021-08-31) Kalyoncu, HülyaThe Turkish carpets with a great importance in world’s carpet history have their origins in Pazırık Carpet, the world’s oldest and the first knotted carpet which was produced by the Central Asian Turks. Carpet tradition of Turks was kept by the Anatolian Seljuk Empire. It had its golden age with the naturalist carpets woven in Bursa and its vicinity in the 16th century that corresponds to the Ottoman period. The Turkish carpets included in the religion and society-thematic paintings made in Renaissance period by the European painters in various countries were regarded as the expression of wealth and magnificence. The Ottoman-Turkish carpets illustrated in portraits of the English aristocrats as well influenced the English carpet art in addition to adding aesthetic values to the paintings. In this study performed in this context, literature of the portraits of English aristocrats that involve Turkish carpets was reviewed. Besides, painters of the paintings, the aristocrat’s portrayed and motif-oriented characteristics of the Turkish carpets were addressed in detail. It was aimed to reveal the place of the carpets addressed within the discipline of art history, in Turkish cultural history and their effects on the British carpet production. In conclusion, it was turned out that they place premium on Turkish culture and art.Yayın Underemployment in the Turkish labor market(Sosyoekonomi Derneği, 2017-07-31) Susanlı, Zehra BilgenUsing individual-level data from Household Labor Force Surveys for the period 2009-2015, this paper examines the determinants of underemployment in the sample of wage and salary earners in Turkey. Findings from Probit estimations indicate that the effect of gender on the likelihood of underemployment is not statistically significant, and there is a negative association between educational attainment and the likelihood of underemployment. Within the group of higher educated individuals, there are important differences across fields of study.Yayın New criteria for the existence of stable equilibrium points in nonsymmetric cellular neural networks(2003) Özcan, Neyir; Arık, Sabri; Tavşanoğlu, Ahmet VedatThis paper presents new criteria for the existence of stable equilibrium points in the total saturation region for cellular neural networks (CNNs). It is shown that the results obtained can be used to derive some complete stability conditions for some special classes of CNNs such as positive cell-linking CNNs, opposite-sign CNNs and dominant-template CNNs. Our results are also compared with the previous results derived in the literature for the existence of stable equilibrium points for CNNs.Yayın The interaction between corporate governance and financial performance: an implementation for the UK banks(PressAcademia, 2023-02-01) Almusattar, İbrahim; Teker, DilekPurpose- There is a wide range of literatüre that study the relation between corporate governance and financial capability of firms. Choudhury & Alam (2013) defines corporate governance as the relationship between corporate management, executives, the providers of equity, and people and institutions who save and invest their money to get a return. Reddy et al (2013) claimed that a good corporate governance system allows companies to have easier access to resources, lower costs of capital, enhance stakeholder reputation and improve organisational performance. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the performance of commercial banks in the UK with internal corporate governance elements. Thus, the listed commercial banks that works in the UK London Stock Exchange (LSE) considered as sample of this study. Hence, using availability data of the Financial Times Stock Exchange 350 (FTSE 350) companies including banks that operate in LSE, the period (2011-2020). Methodology- The study employs a sample of banks trading on (LSE) in the UK, the study uses the quantitative research method, and the data is collected by using DataStream databases, as well as annual reports of listed banks in( LSM). The hypothesis has been tested and analysed by using multivariate fixed-effect regression to examine the relationship between corporate governance mechanisms and the financial performance of FTSE350-listed banks. Followed by robustness tests performed on the relationships to reveal any statistical issue that can change or deform the results of the study. The banks' performance was measured by using Return on Assets Ratio (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and TOBIN’s Q. While, corporate governance variables are board size, board independence, board meeting, board female, audit committee independence, audit committee meeting, audit committee financial expertise, ownership concentration, and ownership institutional. Moreover, the study implemented a control variable which is based on the previous literature such as leverage, bank size, bank age, and capital adequacy ratio. Findings- The result of this study shows that corporate governance's effect on bank performance depends on the performance measure as well as the governance attribution examined. In general, corporate governance dynamics show a negative correlation with all banks' performance proxies except ownership structure (ownership concentration, Institutional Investors) Concerning control variables dynamics indicate a negative correlation except capital adequacy. Conclusion- There is increasing interest in the study of corporate governance and its impact on financial and non-finance firms' performance crosse the world. As mentioned earlier the many objectives of the study is to determine the relationship between corporate governance and bank performance in the UK. Based on the analysis the study concluded that banks operating in the UK would improve their performance with less board independence, fewer board meetings, higher audit committee independence, higher ownership concentration, and less institutional ownership.Yayın The effect of parenting on teenagers’ decision to drop out of school(Sakarya Üniversitesi, 2018-12-29) Handanos, Daniel; Aktan, Zekeriya DenizPrevious research has indicated the gravity of both parenting and parental bond on a child's successful upbringing. In this, four main styles of parenting have been identified, known as authoritarian, authoritative, permissive and neglectful. While recent research addressed the role of parenting on academic success; additional factors include self-esteem, behavioural inhibition and behavioural activation; whereas the main types of parental bond include affectionate constraint, affectionless control, optimal parenting and neglectful parenting. The current study takes the aforementioned research one step further by examining if self-esteem, strength of goal orientation, parental bond and their parent's child rearing method has an effect on a teenagers' decision to drop out of school. Results indicated that the permissive parenting style and affectionate constraint were the best predictors of student's decision to remain in education. Additionally, participants who had decided to drop out of school displayed lower levels of self-esteem, behavioural inhibition and behavioural activation.Yayın A new novel synchronization index of brain networks in hyperbolic EEG dynamics(Sakarya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, 2022-06) Demirer, Rüştü MuratThe functional connectivity ofbrain connectivity changes its pattern over time i.e. dynamics, even in the resting state with an infinite number of degrees of freedom with local couplings. Recently, quantifying the level of synchrony has received considerable attention. We hypothesized that time-varying instantaneous phase synchronization over local couplings are defined in hyperbolic space and different brain regions can identify failures, flexibility, and stability in network dynamics. Our goal is to understand the phase synchronization changes of the beta-gamma band, and in addition, to investigate Shannon entropy based on phase synchronization stability. Whole EEG dynamics from local phase synchronizations was used to detect treatment resistance from both hemispheres in OCD patients. Temporal filtering and Hilbert transforms were performed to infer beta-gamma band phase difference activity from the EEG brain dynamics. Then, the response beta-gamma band phase stability was quantified using a new phase synchronization index (PSI). Results indicated significantly changed phase synchronization of the response and non-response to treatment, patients in OCD patients in F7 electrode. Greater phase fluctuations of beta-gamma synchronizations in treatment resistance OCD is claiming phase deficiencies within neural populations. This study first provides experimental and theoretical support for characterizing cycle structure depends on the non-Euclidian dynamics of neural phase synchrony caused by disturbances of underlying neurotransmitter systems, as reflected in different normal and disease states.Yayın Edge detection of aerial images using artificial bee colony algorithm(Kırgızistan Türkiye Manas Üniversitesi, 2022-06-30) Yelmenoğlu, Elif Deniz; Akhan Baykan, NurdanEdge detection techniques are the one of the best popular and significant implementation areas of the image processing. Moreover, image processing is very widely used in so many fields. Therefore, lots of methods are used in the development and the developed studies provide a variety of solutions to problems of computer vision systems. In many studies, metaheuristic algorithms have been used for obtaining better results. In this paper, aerial images are used for edge information extraction by using Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) Optimization Algorithm. Procedures were performed on gray scale aerial images which are taken from RADIUS/DARPA-IU Fort Hood database. Initially bee colony size was specified according to sizes of images. Then a threshold value was set for each image, which related with images’ standard deviation of gray scale values. After the bees were distributed, fitness values and probability values were computed according to gray scale value. While appropriate pixels were specified, the other ones were being abandoned and labeled as banned pixels therefore bees never located on these pixels again. So the edges were found without the need to examine all pixels in the image. Our improved method’s results are compared with other results found in the literature according to detection error and similarity calculations’. All the experimental results show that ABC can be used for obtaining edge information from images.Yayın Philosophical architectonics and theatricality in Gilles Deleuze’s theory(Mersin Üniversitesi, 2021-10) Hatipoğlu, ÖzümTheatricality, as a methodological basis of Deleuze’s theory, insinuates a new thought of Being/beings by emancipating philosophy from its anthropological orientation. Despite the fact that the phenomenological methodologies attempted to link the transcendental with the empirical domain, the source of reflexivity was still the subject. Deleuze’s ontological repetition maintains the infinite reflection of the transcendental and the empirical domains into each other, yet it posits the symbolic order as the third order where the infinite reflexive expansion between concept and matter becomes immanently transcended. By taking this formulation as its point of departure, this article analyzes how Deleuze’s notion of theatricality operates as the self-reflexive and excessive origin of thought.
