Yayın Prisoners’ dilemma in a spatially separated system based on spin–photon interactions(MDPI, 2022-09) Altıntaş, Azmi Ali; Özaydın, Fatih; Bayındır, Cihan; Bayrakçı, VeyselHaving access to ideal quantum mechanical resources, the prisoners’ dilemma can be ceased. Here, we propose a distributed quantum circuit to allow spatially separated prisoners to play the prisoners’ dilemma game. Decomposing the circuit into controlled-Z and single-qubit gates only, we design a corresponding spin–photon-interaction-based physical setup within the reach of current technology. In our setup, spins are considered to be the players’ logical qubits, which can be realized via nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond or quantum dots coupled to optical cavities, and the game is played via a flying photon realizing logic operations by interacting with the spatially separated optical cavities to which the spin qubits are coupled. We also analyze the effect of the imperfect realization of two-qubit gates on the game, and discuss the revival of the dilemma and the emergence of new Nash equilibria.Yayın Microservices-based databank for Turkish hazelnut cultivars using IoT and semantic web technologies(John Wiley and Sons Ltd, 2024-03-30) Aydın, Şahin; Aldara, DieaaInformation and communication technologies (ICTs) can play a crucial role in facilitating access to comprehensive information on the quality standards of Turkish hazelnut cultivars. In this regard, this study introduces a Hazelnut Databank System (HDS) that utilizes the microservices architecture, an integrated software system supported by the Internet of Things (IoT) and semantic web, to categorize Turkish hazelnut cultivars. The study focuses on developing microservices using various programming languages and frameworks. Specifically, C# on the.NET Core Framework was used for both microservices and the web-based application implemented through the ASP.NET Core MVC Framework. Mobile-based software applications were created using Xamarin. Forms, and the IoT application was developed using the Python programming language. The data storage is facilitated through the MS SQL Server database. Additionally, the study incorporates the implementation of a hazelnut species classification system using the DNN + ResNet50 machine learning model, achieving an impressive accuracy rate of 95.77%. The overall usability of the system was evaluated, resulting in a score of 42 out of 50. By providing detailed information on Turkish hazelnut cultivars, the HDS has the potential to greatly improve hazelnut production quality in Turkey and increase awareness of hazelnut agriculture among relevant stakeholders.Yayın Associations among adolescents' mindfulness, sympathy, cognitive empathy, and sibling relationships(Sage Publication, 2024-02) Barata, Özge; Acar, İbrahim Hakkı; Bostancı, SelenIn the current study, we examined the direct and indirect paths from mindfulness to adolescents’ sibling relationships through their cognitive empathy and sympathy. The sample consisted of 220 adolescents (50.9 % female) between age of 13 and 17 years (M = 15.86, SD = 0.91). Participants reported their mindfulness (acceptance and awareness), cognitive empathy and sympathy, and sibling relationships. The parallel mediation model revealed that mindful awareness and acceptance predicted kindness, involvement, and empathy within sibling relationships through sympathy. In addition, there was a significant indirect effect of mindful awareness to empathy in sibling relationships through cognitive empathy. Findings provided information regarding the importance of indirect contributions of mindfulness to sibling relationships through cognitive empathy and sympathy.Yayın Adaptive locally connected recurrent unit (ALCRU)(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2025-07-03) Özçelik, Şuayb Talha; Tek, Faik BorayResearch has shown that adaptive locally connected neurons outperform their fully connected (dense) counterparts, motivating this study on the development of the Adaptive Locally Connected Recurrent Unit (ALCRU). ALCRU modifies the Simple Recurrent Neuron Model (SimpleRNN) by incorporating spatial coordinate spaces for input and hidden state vectors, facilitating the learning of parametric local receptive fields. These modifications add four trainable parameters per neuron, resulting in a minor increase in computational complexity. ALCRU is implemented using standard frameworks and trained with back-propagation-based optimizers. We evaluate the performance of ALCRU using diverse benchmark datasets, including IMDb for sentiment analysis, AdditionRNN for sequence modelling, and the Weather dataset for time-series forecasting. Results show that ALCRU achieves accuracy and loss metrics comparable to GRU and LSTM while consistently outperforming SimpleRNN. In particular, experiments with longer sequence lengths on AdditionRNN and increased input dimensions on IMDb highlight ALCRU’s superior scalability and efficiency in processing complex data sequences. In terms of computational efficiency, ALCRU demonstrates a considerable speed advantage over gated models like LSTM and GRU, though it is slower than SimpleRNN. These findings suggest that adaptive local connectivity enhances both the accuracy and efficiency of recurrent neural networks, offering a promising alternative to standard architectures.Yayın Text-to-SQL: a methodical review of challenges and models(TÜBİTAK, 2024-05-20) Kanburoğlu, Ali Buğra; Tek, Faik BorayThis survey focuses on Text-to-SQL, automated translation of natural language queries into SQL queries. Initially, we describe the problem and its main challenges. Then, by following the PRISMA systematic review methodology, we survey the existing Text-to-SQL review papers in the literature. We apply the same method to extract proposed Text-to-SQL models and classify them with respect to used evaluation metrics and benchmarks. We highlight the accuracies achieved by various models on Text-to-SQL datasets and discuss execution-guided evaluation strategies. We present insights into model training times and implementations of different models. We also explore the availability of Text-to-SQL datasets in non-English languages. Additionally, we focus on large language model (LLM) based approaches for the Text-to-SQL task, where we examine LLM-based studies in the literature and subsequently evaluate the LLMs on the cross-domain Spider dataset. Finally, we conclude with a discussion of future directions for Text-to-SQL research, identifying potential areas of improvement and advancements in this field.Yayın The mediating role of schema modes in the relationship between parentification and codependency(SAGE Publications Inc., 2025-07) Ünver, Buket; Önürme, Güneş BeyzaThe aim of this study is to examine the mediating role of schema modes between parentification in different roles and codependency. The sample of the study consists of 599 Turkish women aged between 18 and 64. Firstly, Pearson correlation analysis was conducted, revealing that most of the variables were significantly correlated. Secondly, mediating analysis was performed. The results showed that vulnerable child, angry child, compliant surrender, and demanding parent modes mediated the relationship between parent-focused parentification and codependency. The relationship between sibling-focused parentification and codependency was found to be mediated by the happy child, punitive parent, and demanding parent mode. These findings indicate that parentification in different roles are associated with codependency in women through distinct schema modes, with the exception of the demanding parent mode, which appeared in both paths. Furthermore, the results highlight that disruptions in the hierarchical structure of the early parent-child relationship shapes emotional and cognitive structures in adulthood, potentially contributing to the development of dysfunctional relationship dynamics.Yayın Witnessing the end, supporting the living: A qualitative study of palliative caregiving in end-of-life patients in Türkiye(Cambridge University Press, 2026-02-11) Sert Yurdakul, Selin; Erbay Erşen, Merve; Özel, DilaraObjectives. Palliative care seeks to enhance the quality of life for individuals with serious illnesses and their families by addressing physical, emotional, and psychological needs. This phenomenological study examines the lived experiences of 8 caregivers in palliative care settings in Türkiye, focusing on the challenges they face, the coping mechanisms they employ, and their reflections on the caregiving role. Special emphasis is given to both psychological and somatic signs of stress, along with the possible advantages of body-oriented resilience techniques. Methods. Using a phenomenological qualitative design, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 8 caregivers providing care to relatives in a hospital-based palliative care unit. Data were collected between February and April 2023 and analyzed through conventional content analysis. Results. Four central themes emerged from inductive coding: harmony in healing, navigating difficulties, resilience in palliative care, and reflections on the finite. The findings reveal a dual reality: palliative caregivers derive meaning and satisfaction from compassionate connections, high-quality clinical care, and peer support, yet they also endure significant burdens, including emotional strain, physical exhaustion, disrupted daily routines, and shifting relational dynamics. Anticipatory grief and chronic stress responses were prevalent, frequently manifesting in both psychological and somatic forms (e.g., sleep disturbances, muscle tension, and autonomic arousal). Despite these challenges, palliative caregivers employed spiritual beliefs, peer interactions, and self-care routines as resilience strategies. Significance of results. The mind–body challenges identified in the study emphasize the need for interventions that focus on self-regulation and resilience, including body-oriented approaches that strengthen internal resources, regulate stress responses, and encourage adaptability. Incorporating such approaches into group-based settings may improve mutual support and enhance both individual and relational well-being. The study highlights the importance of comprehensive, caregiver-centered support systems to reduce burden and improve the overall quality of palliative care.
