The relation between geographical place and innovativeness: the case of Turkey
(Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi, 2014-05-26) Falcıoğlu, Pınar
A line of argument in the new growth economy discussions is whether specialization or diversification of economic activity on the geographical scale stimulates innovation. This study explores the relation between innovativeness and different types of geographical concentrations in the case of a developing country. The study addresses the discussion through statistical and econometric analyses using variables such as number of patents, new firm entry and exit at the regional level for the period 1995-2001. The results do not confirm that regions with higher levels of related variety or specialization are more innovative, but instead regions with higher levels of variety are found to be more innovative supporting the diversity thesis.

From past to present: spam detection and identifying opinion leaders in social networks
(Yildiz Teknik Univ., 2022-06-22) Altınel Girgin, Ayşe Berna; Gümüşçekiçci, Gizem
On microblogging sites, which are gaining more and more users every day, a wide range of ideas are quickly emerging, spreading, and creating interactive environments. In some cases, in Turkey as well as in the rest of the world, it was noticed that events were published on microblogging sites before appearing in visual, audio and printed news sources. Thanks to the rapid flow of information in social networks, it can reach millions of people in seconds. In this context, social media can be seen as one of the most important sources of information affecting public opinion. Since the information in social networks became accessible, research started to be conducted using the information on the social networks. While the studies about spam detection and identification of opinion leaders gained popularity, surveys about these topics began to be published. This study also shows the importance of spam detection and identification of opinion leaders in social networks. It is seen that the data collected from social platforms, especially in recent years, has sourced many state-of-art applications. There are independent surveys that focus on filtering the spam content and detecting influencers on social networks. This survey analyzes both spam detection studies and opinion leader identification and categorizes these studies by their methodologies. As far as we know there is no survey that contains approaches for both spam detection and opinion leader identification in social networks. This survey contains an overview of the past and recent advances in both spam detection and opinion leader identification studies in social networks. Furthermore, readers of this survey have the opportunity of understanding general aspects of different studies about spam detection and opinion leader identification while observing key points and comparisons of these studies.

Her an olma halindeki şartlar altında örgütlerin neden-sonuç ilişkileri arasındaki rasyonel bağları kurarak anı idrak edebileceklerine inanmaya devam etmeleri söz konusu değildir.

Management of economic units is as old as the history of civilizations; however, the formation of the project management methodology and the determination of its rules have been established rather recently. The most important historical examples of project management in the construction and architecture area happened especially in the period between the 18th and 19th centuries. The most beautiful and oldest historical reference project may be the construction of Egyptian Pyramids. Nowadays, project management has also become a distinctive way to manage business activities. Most of accomplished companies in all industries are using project management techniques, and the companies using project management for the operations. On the other hand, the importance of innovation in our life has increased in daily life with the increasing global competitive environment. Innovation has also become a distinctive part of management theory. The increase in innovation performance of countries has a key role on business economic ans social development, prosperity, and growth in our time. For this reason, project-based firms have started to apply innovationtechniques more than ever. These firms started to become a more vital and important organizational context, as examples many current managerial challenges. Innovative Project Management techniques should use owing to the effect of technology and its influence on organizational processes. It is an essential aspect of many growth strategy. Society gains much greater benefits from the same sources with the value added of the innovation. Therefore, innovation is not only economic and business system but also it is a social system. Innovation is located within a dynamic environment which is especially affected by the following elements; technology firms, market uncertainties, rapid change, shortened product life cycle, and globalization. Therefore; it is inevitable for organizations to be innovative for sustainability, for competition, for being able to grow and leading their market. This thesis, with a case study and research about Innovative Project Management examines the functioning of an innovative based company about UPS - (Uninterrupted Power Supply) project in electronics industry. The study also strives to discover the added value to the UPS project through Innovative Project Management.

The relationship between patents and economic growth: a panel VAR and causality analyses on OECD countries
(Işık Üniversitesi, 2023-06-21) Özkan Yıldız, Öznur; Görkey, Selda; Işık Üniversitesi, Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü, Uygulamalı Ekonomi Yüksek Lisans Programı
The patent subject requires a comprehensive analysis both theoretically and empirically as it is related to many concepts. Patenting is important not only for the patent owner, but also for society and the country. Over the years, the causes of economic growth have been put forward in various ways in different growth models. Sustainable economic growth can be achieved by the creation of innovation by industries that carry out R&D activities and the continuous feeding of innovation with R&D, according to R&D-based endogenous growth models. The innovation process is depicted as a cumulative one in which new innovations build on past achievements. Empirical evidence demonstrates that patents, as a form of intellectual property rights contribute to economic growth. Especially in knowledge-based new economies, patents play a essential role in the decisions of countries and companies to invest in innovation. This study first theoretically reviews the economic effects of patent and patent system. For this purpose, it explains the impact of patents on economic growth, starting from their role as an innovation indicator and considering the main benefits of the patent system. The study then empirically investigates the relationship between patents and economic growth for a panel of OECD countries between 1990 and 2019. By employing panel vector autoregression (VAR) approach and panel-VAR Granger causality analysis, the research distinguishes patents into patent applications and grants. According to the findings of the Granger causality analysis, there is no two-way causality relationship between patents and economic growth, but there is a causality relationship from patents to economic growth. The findings from the empirical estimates confirm a significant contribution of patents to economic growth in OECD countries. The empirical results show that an improvement in patent grants play a decisive role rather than patent applications in enchancing gross domestic product.

Breaking free from the linear: In search for Innoveaders
(Elsevier Science Inc, 2015-07-03) Yüksel, Ahmet Hakan
The characteristics of the global business environment in which the organizations are expected to sense-and-respond to the target customers’ preferences constantly on the move have drastically changed for the last four decades. The impact of repeated and prolonged attempts to design the whole (system) has been neutralized since it is barely enough to predict the outcomes of the upward-causality from the knowledge of the parts. Innovativeness, under these circumstances, cannot be reified as something done to organizations via deliberate managerial interventions. Traditional leadership approaches fail to grasp the very insight regarding the creation of ingenious organizations in which emergence is giving rise to innovation. This conceptual paper intends to delve into the relationship between innovation-driven organizations and the right context of leadership to be instilled through incorporation of complexity science into management and coins the term innoveadership to identify the characteristics of such context.

Evolution of business models during the Covid-19 pandemic
(PressAcademia, 2022-07-30) Teker, Suat; Örendil, Emre
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to propose a comprehensive definition for business models, reviews and summarizes the findings of a previous work by Guckenbiehl and Corral de Zubielqui (2022) about how business models have evolved by providing insights from reshaped businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology - In this study, an extensive literature review is followed to learn about definition of business models and how business model have been adapted or even innovated during the times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings - Construction of a well-planned business model is a requirement for an organization to reach success. In the times of disruptive events, business models go through adaptive or innovative changes which is a necessity for survival and further success. It is observed that organizations generate different responses to crises (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic) in means of business model changes. The understanding of these differences is facilitated by the aforementioned work through grouping organizations in six different clusters. Conclusion - The structure of a business model prior to the COVID-19 pandemic was also one of the determinants of a business’s response to the pandemic. Businesses either made no changes in their business models, or made notable innovations, or little adaptations in response to the disruptive environment.

Understanding AI adoption at organizations: literature review of TOE framework
(Suat Teker, 2025-07-30) Dönmez, Sena; Tuncay Çelikel, Aslı; Soykut Sarıca, Yeşim Pınar; Develi, Evrim İldem
Purpose- In the contemporary business landscape, we are witnessing the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is fundamentally reshaping organizational practices. These developments mark what can be described as the "Era of AI", a significant milestone in technological history. While AI offers benefits, it also presents critical challenges, particularly concerning its adoption and the adaptation processes within organizations. Despite the swift evolution of AI technologies, research on their practical applications in organizational settings remains scarce and underdeveloped. This gap highlights a promising area for further exploration. In alignment with the literature, it can be argued that organizations with higher AI adoption rates tend to achieve better innovation outcomes, which suggests a need to revisit and potentially expand the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) paradigm. Originally developed to explain technological adoption/embracement, the TOE framework may not capture the complexities introduced by AI. This study aims to explore whether an expanded TOE paradigm is necessary to better address the contemporary dynamics of AI adoption. Methodology- This research investigates the historical development and consolidation of AI within organizations, using the TOE paradigm as a foundational theoretical look. The study examines whether the existing TOE model sufficiently explains AI adoption or whether it requires augmentation to remain relevant in the age of generative AI. Findings- Literature review findings indicate that the traditional TOE framework exhibits limitations when applied to AI adoption. To address these gaps, another study was found in the literature that proposes the inclusion of a human factor—transforming the TOE into a TOEH (Technology-Organization-Environment-Human) model. In our research we would like to integrate critical thinking (CT) skills under Human Factor, as organizations increasingly seek employees who can critically assess and effectively utilize outputs from generative AI (GenAI) tools. The ability to make intelligent and ethical decisions in the context of AI is now a vital competency. Conclusion- The proposed TOEH framework offers a more well-rounded approach to discovering AI adoption within organizations. By incorporating the human element, particularly critical thinking skills, organizations can better prepare to embrace AI in an ethical, effective, and innovative manner.
