Blogs have the affordance to become an integral part of teaching and learning processes as a vehicle for knowledge management. Open, flexible systems integrating blogs provide user-friendly, personalised microlearning environments while ensuring ubiquitous access. This paper concentrates on blog interoperability in an open space for learning and collaboration. As blogging is one of the most popular web-based forms of publishing today, there is a plethora of different blogging tools, feed readers, and aggregators, enabling information dissemination, filtering, and retrieval. Several different data structure and interaction standards emerged which make integration a real challenge. This paper aims at creating distributed microlearning environments basing on networks of integrated blogs, discusses problems of such an integration along with possible solutions, and proposes an architecture for loosely-coupled blog integration. The core of this infrastructure consists of a service interface for feed management that allows learners as well as facilitators to automatically set up channel structures for feed syndication, while effectively reducing the management efforts thereof through proper system support.

Air interface identification for Software Radio systems
(Elsevier GMBH, 2007) Öner, Mustafa Mengüç; Jondral, Friedrich K.
Reconfigurable Software Radio (SR) equipment is considered as the next evolutionary step in the mobile communications. One of the most crucial properties of a SR terminal is that it is capable of using a wide range of air interface standards, providing a seamless interoperability between different standards and an enhanced roaming capability, paving way to a more flexible and efficient use of spectral resources. This multimode operation has to be supported by a number of key functionalities, one of which is the air interface identification. A SR terminal, when switched on, has to be able to locate and identify the air interfaces available in the frequency environment, and while connected to a network, it has to monitor the presence of alternative air interfaces to perform interstandard handover if necessary. In our work, we propose exploiting the distinct cyclostationary properties of signals from different air interfaces as features for air interface identification.

Design and implementation of a smart beehive and its monitoring system using microservices in the context of IoT and open data
(Elsevier B.V., 2022-05) Aydın, Şahin; Aydın, Mehmet Nafiz
It is essential to keep honey bees healthy for providing a sustainable ecological balance. One way of keeping honey bees healthy is to be able to monitor and control the general conditions in a beehive and also outside of a beehive. Monitoring systems offer an effective way of accessing, visualizing, sharing, and managing data that is gathered from performed agricultural and livestock activities for domain stakeholders. Such systems have recently been implemented based on wireless sensor networks (WSN) and IoT to monitor the activities of honey bees in beehives as well. Scholars have shown considerable interests in proposing IoT- and WSN-based beehive monitoring systems, but much of the research up to now lacks in proposing appropriate architecture for open data driven beehive monitoring systems. Developing a robust monitoring system based on a contemporary software architecture such as microservices can be of great help to be able to control the activities of honey bees and more importantly to be able to keep them healthy in beehives. This research sets out to design and implementation of a sustainable WSN-based beehive monitoring platform using a microservice architecture. We pointed out that by adopting microservices one can deal with long-standing problems with heterogeneity, interoperability, scalability, agility, reliability, maintainability issues, and in turn achieve sustainable WSN-based beehive monitoring systems.

E-learning and microformats: A learning object harvesting model and a sample application
(2008) Soylu, Ahmet; Kuru, Selahattin; Wild, Fridolin; Mödritscher, Felix
In order to support interoperability of learning tools and reusability of resources, this paper introduces a framework for harvesting learning objects from web-based content. Therefore, commonly-known web technologies are examined with respect to their suitability for harvesting embedded meta-data. Then, a lightweight application profile and a microformat for learning objects are proposed based on well-known learning object metadata standards. Additionally, we describe a web service which utilizes XSL transformation (GRDDL) to extract learning objects from different web pages, and provide a SQI target as a retrieval facility using a more complex query language called SPARQL. Finally, we outline the applicability of our framework on the basis of a search client employing the new SQI service for searching and retrieving learning objects.
