dc.description.abstractThe universal citizenship, dominance of the principle of equality in political culture, and limitation of official recognition only to non-Muslims as minority groups are key to Turkey's approach to the protection of minorities. One of the conditions for EU's membership is that the candidate country has to achieved stability of institutions guaranteeing democracy, rule of law, human rights, and respect for minorities. Here, Toktas outlines and analyzes how the EU develops a stance vis-a-vis Turkey's treatment towards its non-Muslim minorities.en_US
