Design science perspective on NFC research: Review and research agenda
(Slovensko Drustvo Informatika, 2013) Aydın, Mehmet Nafiz; Özdenizci Köse, Büşra
Near Field Communication (NFC), as one of the emerging and promising technological developments, provides means to short range contactless communication for mobile phones and other devices alike. NFC has become an attractive design science research area for many academicians due to its exploding growth and its promising applications and related services. A better understanding of the current status of NFC research is necessary to maintain the advancement of knowledge in NFC research and to identify the gap between theory and practice. In this paper, we present a literature review on NFC. To facilitate the analysis of the literature, we propose a research framework and organize the NFC literature into four major categories (theory and development, applications and services, infrastructure, ecosystem). We contend that due to the nature of NFC (industry high stakes, multidisciplinary research, artifacts development), the design science research paradigm serves an appropriate ground to investigate an extent to which relevance and rigor is achieved. By employing the proposed research framework and design science perspective, we set up a research agenda (research directions and promising research questions) which may help practitioners and academics to achieve a substantial progress in NFC.

A novel method to design wideband power amplifier for wireless communication
(IEEE, 2013) Köprü, Ramazan; Kuntman, Hulusi Hakan; Yarman, Bekir Sıddık Binboğa
A new approach is presented to design microwave amplifiers to deliver maximum output power using Simplified Real Frequency Technique (SRFT). Proposed method tracks the maximum stable gain (MSG) curve of the active device (BJT, FET etc.) under consideration. Maximum Stable Gain Amplifier (MSGA) possesses higher gain than that of the constant or Flat Gain Amplifier (FGA) along the operating frequency band. Compared to FGA, it is this feature that makes MSGA high efficiency and low DC power consumption amplifier. Employing the proposed design method, a MSG power amplifier is constructed over the frequency band of 800-5200 MHz which can be utilized for GSM, UMTS, Wi-Fi and Wi-MAX applications.

IT Multisourcing in a telecommunication company
(Int Business Information Management Assoc-IBIMA, 2012) Aydın, Mehmet Nafiz; Bingöl, Erdem
Organizations have used numerous sourcing strategies to lower IT costs and improve IT service levels. However, a number of these sourcing strategies have failed to deliver on their expected outcomes. Multisourcing has been advanced as a form of sourcing which addresses the deficiencies of other failed strategies. From the Telecommunication case, we found that the benefits of multisourcing IT infrastructure stem from an ability to lower IT costs, improve IT service levels and enabling access to specialist vendors for flexible capability. The costs and risks of IT multisourcing were addressed as the ongoing management of vendors and the underlying importance of a service management layer in organizations.

Estimation of microstretch elastic moduli by the use of vibrational data
(Springer, 2007) Kırış, Ahmet; İnan, Esin
In the present work, a nonlinear wave theory is used for the estimation of the material properties of a "microstretch" medium. For this purpose a thin plate is considered and triplicate Chebyshev polynomial series are used as admissible functions to ensure the satisfaction of geometric boundary conditions of the plate. The Ritz technique is applied to derive the frequency equation of the microstretch plate and an optimization procedure is performed by minimising the least square "distance" between computed natural frequencies from the energy method and measured natural frequencies. To realize the optimization procedure, a genetic algorithm is used to estimate the elastic moduli of microstretch medium.

Getting agile methods to work for cordys global software product development
(Springer-Verlag Berlin, 2011-03-14) Van Hillegersberg, Jos; Ligtenberg, Gerwin; Aydın, Mehmet Nafiz
Getting agile methods to work in global software development is a potentially rewarding but challenging task. Agile methods are relatively young and still maturing. The application to globally distributed projects is in its early stages. Various guidelines on how to apply and sometimes adapt agile methods have been proposed. However, systematic literature reviews reveal that detailed evaluative studies are scarce and limited to small and medium sized projects. This study presents a framework that integrates best practices of adapting and applying agile methods reported in the literature. The framework is applied to analyze the experiences of global software product development company Cordys in a seven year longitudinal case study. Both the framework and the experiences of Cordys documented in this paper will be of value to other larger projects that aim to he successful in applying agile in globally distributed projects.

3D modeling of cultural heritage objects with a structured light system
(Univ Agean, 2012) Akça, Mehmet Devrim
3D modeling of cultural heritage objects is an expanding application area. The selection of the right technology is very important and strictly related to the project requirements, budget and user's experience. The triangulation based active sensors, e.g. structured light systems are used for many kids of 3D object reconstruction tasks and in particular for 3D recording of cultural heritage objects. This study presents the experiences in the results of two such projects in which a close-range structured light system is used for the 3D digitization. The paper includes the essential steps of the 3D object modeling pipeline, i.e. digitization, registration, surface triangulation, editing, texture mapping and visualization. The capabilities of the used hardware and software are addressed. Particular emphasis is given to a coded structured light system as an option for data acquisition.
