Yayın Reviewing the effects of spatial features on price prediction for real estate market: Istanbul case(IEEE, 2022-09-16) Ecevit, Mert İlhan; Erdem, Zeki; Dağ, HasanIn the real estate market, spatial features play a crucial role in determining property appraisals and prices. When spatial features are considered, classification techniques have been rarely studied compared to regression, which is commonly used for price prediction. This study reviews spatial features' effects on predicting the house price ranges for real estate in Istanbul, Turkey, in the classification context. Spatial features are generated and extracted by geocoding the address information from the original data set. This geocoding and feature extraction is another challenge in this research. The experiments compare the performance of Decision Trees (DT), Random Forests (RF), and Logistic Regression (LR) classifier models on the data set with and without spatial features. The prediction models are evaluated based on classification metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-Score. We additionally examine the ROC curve of each classifier. The test results show that the RF model outperforms the DT and LR models. It is observed that spatial features, when incorporated with non-spatial features, significantly improve the prediction performance of the models for the house price ranges. It is considered that the results can contribute to making decisions more accurately for the appraisal in the real estate industry.Yayın Design trade-offs and considerations for improving the PCB current carrying capacity in high power density power electronics applications(IEEE, 2022-03-24) Büyükdeğirmenci, Veysel Tutku; Kozarva, Ömer F.; Milletsever, Özgür C.; Hava, Ahmet MasumThis paper investigates printed circuit board (PCB) design trade-offs and considerations to maximize the current carrying capacity of traces in PCB-based power electronics applications. Many existing designs rely on methodologies through empirical data presented by the outdated IPC-2152 standard. A design methodology to maximize the utilized PCB area and improve thermal performance is introduced. To assess this methodology, lumped parameter (LP) and finite element (FE) models are developed and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations are carried out. Thermal via placement strategies are investigated and maximum allowable power dissipation on the PCB traces is calculated. Simulations and analyses are experimentally validated on a PCB-based 100kW three-phase three-level inverter. The that results show that the thermal and electrical models discussed in this paper have superior accuracy compared to traditional formulations.Yayın Anti-tobacco control industry strategies in Turkey(BioMed Central Ltd, 2018-02-26) Keklik, Seda; Gültekin Karakas, DeryaBackground: Transnational tobacco companies (TTCs) penetrated the Turkish cigarette market due to trade and investment liberalization in the post-1980 period and eventually secured full control. Despite tobacco control policies put in place in reaction to accelerating consumption, TTCs reinforced their market power through a variety of strategies. This paper explores industry strategies that counteract tobacco control policies in Turkey. Methods: The study employs both qualitative and quantitative analyses to explore industry strategies in Turkey. Besides the content analyses of industry and market reports, descriptive analyses were conducted for the sub-periods of 1999-2015. The analyses focus on the market strategies of product innovation, advertisement-promotion, cost management and pricing. Results: Rising sales of low tar, ultra-low tar, slim, super-slim and flavoured cigarettes indicate that product innovation served to sustain consumption. Besides, the tobacco industry, using its strong distribution channels, the Internet, and CSR projects, were found to have promoted smoking indirectly. The industry also rationalized manufacturing facilities and reduced the cost of tobacco, making Turkey a cigarette-manufacturing base. Tobacco manufacturers, moreover, offered cigarettes in different price segments and adjusted net prices both up and down according to price categories and market conditions. In response to the successful effect of shifts in price margins, the market share of mid-priced cigarettes expanded while those within the economy category maintained the highest market share. As a result of pricing strategies, net sales revenues increased. Aside from official cigarette sales, the upward trends in the registered and unregistered sales of cigarette substitutes indicate that the demand-side tobacco control efforts remain inadequate. Conclusions: The Turkish case reveals that the resilience of the tobacco industry vis-a-vis mainstream tobacco control efforts necessitates a new policy perspective. Rising market concentration by TTCs and the global nature of industry strategies require that the highly profitable manufacturing and trade of tobacco products should be discouraged on a basis of international collaboration. To reduce and eventually eradicate tobacco consumption, supply-side tobacco control measures are needed along with demand-side policies.Yayın Doğrudan pazarlama amaçlı hedef kitle analizi(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018-07-05) Kegeci, Sinan; Özbek, Eyüp Erkan; Türkel, Mustafa Sertaç; Düzağaç, Remzi; Yıldız, Olcay TanerDoğrudan pazarlama, uygun ürünleri uygun kişilerle en kısa yoldan buluşturma sürecidir. Yayın The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on online grocery supply chain management: a case study in Istanbul(Gazi Üniversitesi, 2024-03) Javadi, Sonya; Keten, Olcay; Özer, Ali İhsan; Alkan, Remziye ZeynepThe COVID-19 pandemic has already crippled normal life all over the world. Its negative impact not only changed the human health system tragically but also disrupted the global economic system. One negative result was ended up in the global food supply chain. As the lockdown times have suspended the manufacturing and logistic activities, therefore, the customers have experienced unimaginable chaos in the shopping markets. Moreover, the purchasing habit of the consumers has remarkably changed compared to pre-pandemic. To meet this new demand pattern, many grocery retailers have tried to adapt to the new normal. While before COVID-19 offline grocery purchasing was popular, after the pandemic, online service got tremendous attention in market. In this study, online grocery supply chain management during the COVID-19 in Istanbul is considered. The aim is to find out how online grocery companies will serve more efficiently during the pandemics and which factors have more effect on the customer’s satisfaction. To do so, first, three popular grocery retailers in Istanbul were selected. Then, a related survey was designed to understand the consumer experience as doing online grocery shopping in COVID-19. Unsurprisingly, a result shows that 60% of the respondents did online shopping every 3-4 days in one week, and the delivery time is the most important factor for the customers. Then, the SWOT analyses were performed accordingly, and the related strategies were summarized. Finally, several managerial implications were given to may improve the company’s online services in COVID-19 and post COVID-19 in Turkey.
