    Schwannoma of the lower limb: a case report

    Schwannoma is a benign tumor of the peripheral nerve sheath and is a unique clinical entity when localized to a lower limb. Growing as a painless nodule, it might be misdiagnosed by many medical professionals as another benign soft tissue skin condition, such as lipoma, myxoma, or ganglion cyst. Definitive diagnosis of peripheral schwannoma is made by biopsy and histopathologic evaluation, followed by surgical excision, which is the definitive treatment of the tumor. Classic symptoms of schwannoma of the lower limb are peripheral neuropathy (tingling, burning sensations) and motor impairment (weakness, paralysis of the affected limb). MRI imaging and biopsy are the most useful diagnostic methods for peripheral schwannoma, followed by surgical excision, which is the treatment of choice. Postoperative complications, if present, are minimal and rare. Because of the slow-growing nature of the tumor and the complexity of the lower limb's nervous and structural network, it is often asymptomatic and is challenging to diagnose at a primary stage. That is why we want to spread awareness and draw the reader's attention to this rare case of a patient with schwannoma on the left lower limb.

    Mental disorder and suicidal ideation detection from social media using deep neural networks

    Depression and suicidal ideation are global reasons for life-threatening injury and death. Mental disorders have increased especially among young people in recent years, and early detection of those cases can prevent suicide attempts. Social media platforms provide users with an anonymous space to interact with others, making them a secure environment to discuss their mental disorders. This paper proposes a solution to detect depression/suicidal ideation using natural language processing and deep learning techniques. We used Transformers and a unique model to train the proposed model and applied it to three diferent datasets: SuicideDetection, CEASEv2.0, and SWMH. The proposed model is evaluated using the accuracy, precision, recall, and ROC curve. The proposed model outperforms the state-of-theart in the SuicideDetection and CEASEv2.0 datasets, achieving F1 scores of 0.97 and 0.75, respectively. However, in the SWMH data set, the proposed model is 4% points behind the state-of-the-art precision providing the F1 score of 0.68. In the real world, this project could help psychologists in the early detection of depression and suicidal ideation for a more efcient treatment. The proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance in two of the three datasets, so they could be used to develop a screening tool that could be used by mental health professionals or individuals to assess their own risk of suicide. This could lead to early intervention and treatment, which could save lives.

    Preserving ecclesiastical cultural heritage of thrace: a needs analysis for digital recording in monasteries and temples

    Cultural heritage is a common good passed down as a legacy from previous to future generations. Its preservation is a strong commitment to humanity. The main motivation for this project is based on this understanding and arose from the need for the proper and scientifically documented recording of cultural heritage (CH), both movable and immovable monuments of ecclesiastical cultural treasures. Despite its significance, the systematic documentation of ecclesiastical heritage remains fragmented, lacking a standardized and scientifically driven approach. This research addresses this critical gap by developing a structured methodology for the recording, organization, and digital archiving of ecclesiastical CH monuments. This was accomplished by codifying the actual recording and documentation needs for the ecclesiastical cultural treasures, with the systematic study of the users’ needs. The study focused on the region of Thrace, encompassing areas of Greece, Turkey, and Bulgaria, where post-Byzantine ecclesiastical treasures are expected to be in abundance. Through the design and implementation of surveys and metadata collection, this project has the capacity to facilitate digital transformation across the interconnected fields of religion, arts, and CH. Stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, both within and outside the clergy community, including owners and end-users connected to ecclesiastical cultural treasures, were actively involved in the process. The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the vital role of building distance communication channels and promoting digital transformation across the interconnected fields of religion and cultural heritage. Our emphasis was to actively engage stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to create a practical, user-friendly documentation tool that meets their actual needs.

    Effect of mechanically exfoliated graphite flakes on morphological, mechanical, and thermal properties of epoxy

    Carbon-reinforced polymer composites form an important category of advanced materials, and there is an increasing demand to enhance their performance using more convenient and scalable processes at low costs. In the present study, graphitic flakes were prepared by the mechanical exfoliation of synthetic graphite electrodes and utilized as an abundant and potentially low-cost filler to fabricate epoxy-based composites with different additive ratios of 1–10 wt.%. The morphological, structural, thermal, and mechanical properties of these composites were investigated. It was found that the thermal conductivity of the composites increases by adding graphite, and this increase mainly depends on the ratio of the graphite additive. The addition of graphite was found to have a diverse effect on the mechanical properties of the composites: the tensile strength of the composites decreases with the addition of graphite, whilst their compressive strength and elastic modulus are enhanced. The results demonstrate that incorporating 5 wt% of commercially available graphite into epoxy not only raises the thermal conductivity of the material from 0.223 to 0.485 W/m·K, but also enhances its compressive strength from 66 MPa to 72 MPa. The diverse influence of graphite provides opportunities to prepare epoxy composites with desirable properties for different applications.

    Performance outcomes of supply chain management practices: evidence from Pakistan's fan manufacturing SMEs

    This study examines the impact of supply chain management practices on the organization’s marketing and financial performance. We present the results of a survey conducted with 100 Pakistani fan manufacturing firms. Statistical analysis reveals that the industry struggles with information sharing and joint operations within the supply chain. PLS-SEM analysis of the survey data shows that supply chain performance is significantly correlated with organizational performance. Both customer and supplier relationship management have positive and significant effects on the performance of the supply chain and the organization. However, the impact of customer relationship management is stronger as its path coefficient is greater. Additionally, although internal supply chain management also impacts both supply chain and organization performance positively, the impact is slightly short of being statistically significant. This study contributes to the supply chain management literature by providing empirical evidence from an understudied manufacturing sector from a developing country.

    Energy-based characterization of drilling-induced residual stresses in AA7075-T6

    This study examines the influence of drilling parameters on thrust force, torque, active work, and axial residual stress formation in hot-forged and T6-treated AA7075, a critical high-strength aluminum alloy. A full factorial design was applied using three spindle speeds (800, 1000, 1200 rpm) and three feed rates (0.05, 0.10, 0.15 mm/rev). Cutting force and torque signals were measured using a dynamometer, and axial residual stresses were determined by X-ray diffraction at two locations along the hole depth, namely, the hole entrance (Point A) and the hole exit (Point B). The results show that feed rate is the dominant factor influencing drilling mechanics and residual stress formation, whereas spindle speed mainly affects the thermal and frictional conditions governing stress relaxation. A consistent asymmetry was observed between the two measurement locations, with the exit side exhibiting stronger stress relaxation behavior associated with breakthrough mechanics. Finally, the relationship between active work and axial residual stress is discussed using a qualitative, energy-based interpretation, highlighting active work as a physically meaningful indicator for drilling-induced residual stress evolution.
