Reviewing the effects of spatial features on price prediction for real estate market: Istanbul case
(IEEE, 2022-09-16) Ecevit, Mert İlhan; Erdem, Zeki; Dağ, Hasan
In the real estate market, spatial features play a crucial role in determining property appraisals and prices. When spatial features are considered, classification techniques have been rarely studied compared to regression, which is commonly used for price prediction. This study reviews spatial features' effects on predicting the house price ranges for real estate in Istanbul, Turkey, in the classification context. Spatial features are generated and extracted by geocoding the address information from the original data set. This geocoding and feature extraction is another challenge in this research. The experiments compare the performance of Decision Trees (DT), Random Forests (RF), and Logistic Regression (LR) classifier models on the data set with and without spatial features. The prediction models are evaluated based on classification metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-Score. We additionally examine the ROC curve of each classifier. The test results show that the RF model outperforms the DT and LR models. It is observed that spatial features, when incorporated with non-spatial features, significantly improve the prediction performance of the models for the house price ranges. It is considered that the results can contribute to making decisions more accurately for the appraisal in the real estate industry.

Status of the Focal Plane Instrumentation (FPI) Project of the 4 m DAG Telescope
(SPIE, 2016-08-09) Keskin, Onur; Yerli, Sinan Kaan; Yeşilyaprak, Cahit; Güver, Tolga; Aliş, Sinan; Yelkenci, Filiz Korhan; Güçsav, Bülent Burak; Arabacı, Mehtap Özbey; Erol, Ayşe
DAG (Eastern Anatolia Observatory in Turkish) will be the newest and largest (4m) observatory of Turkey in both optical (VIS) and near-infrared (NIR) Owith its robust observing site infrastructure. The telescope is designedOto house 2 Nasmyth platformes which will be dedicated to NIR and VIS observations. A collaboration has recently been established among four Turkish universities including FMV Isik University (for adaptive optics systems), Middle East Technical University (fort measurement, test and calibration purposes), Istanbul University (for new technology instruments, e.g. MKIDs) and as the coordinator Ataturk University (for obtaining NIR and VIS instruments). In this paper the status of the recently approved FPI project and its aims are presented and possible collaboration opportunities are emphasized.

Aeolian imprints of multiple Mediterranean invasions of the Black Sea during Pleistocene
(Elsevier B.V., 2022-03-04) Erginal, Ahmet Evren; Güneç Kıyak, Nafiye; Makaroğlu, Özlem; Bozcu, Mustafa; Öztürk, Muhammed Zeynel; Selim, Haluk Hamit; Nowacyzk, Norbert R.; Kaya, Nurcan; Öztürk, Tuğba; Karabıyıkoğlu, Mustafa; Polymeris, Georgios S.
Climate changes determined the repeated connections between the Black Sea, Caspian Sea and Mediterranean Sea. The landlocked anoxic Black Sea basin was exposed to several transgressions throughout Quaternary by the Mediterranean Sea through the Straits of Istanbul (Bosphorus) and by the Caspian Sea through the Manych-Kerch spillway. Sedimentological records of these connections are limited mostly to the marine terrace deposits of Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 5e while the pre-MIS 5e period remains uncertain due to a lack of robust facies and chronological data from deep-sea sedimentary sequences. Here we discuss the imprints of multiple Mediterranean transgressions during Middle Pleistocene in the Black Sea based on facies analysis and the optical age of coastal carbonate aeolianites. Contrary to today's hydro-climate of the Black Sea, the aeolianites bear witness to the transformation of the Black Sea into a warm inland sea during successive Mediterranean invasions. Prior to the onset of aeolian deposition, paleosols were formed on the Eocene-aged hardened sandy silts, suggesting strongly washed soil. This is evidenced by no calcium carbonate and a high Rb/Sr ratio, with quartz amounting to of 99.8%. According to our OSL ages, carbonates deposited on the shelf plain under higher temperature and increased evaporation conditions in MIS 15 and the later interglacial phases were transported to the coastal sand dunes during the transitional phases of MIS 15–14, MIS 13–12, MIS 11–10 and MIS 9–8. We suggest that the carbonate-rich and ooid-containing aeolianites were repeatedly formed in the multiple Mediterranean transgression stages, beginning with an increasingly severe dry phase following the Brunhes-Matuyama magnetic reversal.

Forecasting and analysis of domestic solid waste generation in districts of istanbul with support vector regression
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2020-10-12) Özçelik, Şuayb Talha; Tek, Faik Boray
Waste planning is essential for large and developing cities such as Istanbul. In this report, we perform data analysis on "Waste Amount Based on District, Year and Waste Type"dataset shared by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. After analyzing the waste of the districts, we used support vector regression (SVR) to forecast the waste amounts for the coming years. The analysis has shown an overall increasing trend in the waste generation, although it dropped in 2019. The SVR predicts that the most waste generating district will be Küçükçekmece in the coming years.

Mikro ölçekli hisselerde anormal fiyat hareketlerinin LSTM ile tahmini
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2025-08-15) Recal, Füsun; Kayaçetin, Nuri Volkan; Kayahan, İsmail
