Yayın The effect of the interaction between autistic traits and psychotic proneness on empathy: a cross-sectional study with a non-clinical sample(Emerald Publishing, 2023-11-08) Yıldırım, ElifPurpose: Recent evidence indicates an improving effect of the co-occurrence of autistic traits and psychotic symptoms on social cognition, but there is no agreement on the effect of the interaction between autistic traits and psychotic proneness on empathy. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of the interaction between autistic traits and positive psychotic experiences on cognitive and affective empathy. Design/methodology/approach: The sample consisted of 420 adults aged between 18 and 60. Assessments were administered anonymously online. Empathic abilities were evaluated by the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI). While Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ) was applied to measure autistic traits, The Community Assessment of Psychic Experience (CAPE) was used as a measurement of positive psychotic experiences. Findings: A series of regression analyses showed that although AQ and CAPE scores were not correlated with cognitive-IRI, the interaction between these scores predicted cognitive-IRI scores. It was found that the personal distress subscale of IRI was significantly associated with AQ, but this relationship was moderated by CAPE scores. Originality/value: These findings provide a different perspective on understanding social cognitive impairments in autism, which may have potential clinical implications. Findings also contribute to explaining the individual differences in empathic abilities.Yayın God, man, and nature: life for reason and the reason behind the universe - a panentheistic approach to life of pi(De Gruyter, 2021-11-08) Edman, Timuçin Buğra; Gözen, HacerThis article intends to lay out a comparative study of Karma philosophy and literature scrutinizing Yann Martel's novel Life of Pi through a panentheistic approach. Because Karma is one of the predominant philosophies in the novel and permeates the general atmosphere, this article intends to scrutinize Yann Martel's novel Life of Pi through a panentheistic approach. Although karma is a very complex issue, since anyone committing evil acts can claim to be a mere agent of karma delivering punishment to others for sins they committed in their past lives, it is true that according to karma, our actions have consequences which affect the entirety of our lives, and this can also be seen as free will. Yet while this approach tends to focus on the action and reaction mechanisms of life, the flow of life in the universe should still be carefully contemplated, since if we believe the first story, Pi's survival not only depends on his choices, but also on the opportunities that the universe offers him. In that sense, if we are to accept God as the soul of the universe, then the universal spirit must be omnipresent and omnipotent while also capable of transforming into anything in terms of s panentheistic approach. Thus God, being greater than the universe, is the ultimate force that balances everything, and is also the biggest karma controller. For this reason, this article analyzes Life of Pi from both inductive and deductive slants to demonstrate that all roads lead to God, the omniscient.Yayın Local democracy online: An analysis of local government web sites in England and Wales(IGI Global, 2006-07) Pratchett, Lawrence; Wingfield, Melvin; Karakaya Polat, RabiaThis report from the field analyzes the extent to which local authorities in England and Wales have responded to the e-democracy agenda by examining their Web sites and assessing their potential to deliver democracy. The analysis of Web sites provides a powerful insight into how local government is using the Internet to promote democracy. Two aspects of Web site use are particularly significant. First, the analysis reveals the overall commitment to e-democracy in local government, as it is a measure of actual behavior rather than simply an attitudinal survey. Second, it highlights the types of democratic structure being supported and the values being emphasized in the implementation of e-democracy. The research demonstrated that the potential of the Internet for enhancing democracy is not fully exploited by local authorities and there remain considerable variations between different authorities.Yayın ICamp - The educational web for higher education(Springer Verlag, 2006) Kieslinger, Barbara; Wild, Fridolin; Arsun, Onur İhsaniCamp is an EC-funded research project in the area of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) that aims to support collaboration and social networking across systems, countries and disciplines in higher education. The concept of an iCamp Space will build on existing interfaces and integrate shared community features. Interoperability amongst different open source learning systems and tools is the key to successful sustainability of iCamp. The content for this collaboration within social communities is provided via distributed networked repositories including, for example, content brokerage platforms, online libraries, and learning object databases. The innovative pedagogical model of iCamp is based on social constructivist learning theories. iCamp creates an environment for a new way of social networking in higher education that puts more emphasis on self-organised, self-directed learning, social networking and cross-cultural collaboration.Yayın Turkey's radical right and the Kurdish issue: The MHP's reaction to the "Democratic Opening"(2010-09) Celep, ÖdülTurkey's current government's 'democratic opening' project has led to a series of political discussions regarding the cause and resolve of the Kurdish issue. One major consequence of this debate has been the polarization of opinion between conservatives, represented by the ruling Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalkinma Partisi, AKP) and nationalists, represented by the Nationalist Action Party (Milliyetçi Hareket Partisi, MHP). This study elaborates on the major reasons for MHP's opposition to AKP on the 'democratic opening.' In doing so, the study examines the historical, ideological distinctions between the two parties and their perception of ethnic and linguistic differences in Turkish society. AKP comes from a political tradition that has been relatively more accommodating towards such differences. On the contrary, MHP has roots in an ethno-nationalist and mono-culturalist ideology, which can be observed in its denial of the identity component of the Kurdish issue.Yayın Did you read the news before playing the advergame? The effects of priming, persuasion knowledge and placement strength on brand attitude and recall in advergames(Inderscience Publishers, 2020-06-01) Sağkaya Güngör, AyşegülWith the advergames, marketers reach their goal of conveying their message to their target audience in an entertaining way. The study aims to find out, first, how the priming effects responses of the advergame players toward the brand. Additionally, persuasion knowledge and placement strength were investigated, along with priming. A 2 × 2 × 2 between-subjects laboratory experiment was conducted with 204 participants. Results show that priming has significant effects on brand attitude and recall. The effects were partially persistent after the introduction of persuasion knowledge. When the placement strength was introduced, it was observed significant differences on brand attitude and recall.Yayın Rotational Weingarten surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space(Birkhauser, 2020-04-01) Dursun, UğurWe study rotational Weingarten surfaces in the hyperbolic space H3(- 1) with the principal curvatures κ and λ satisfying a certain functional relation κ= F(λ) for a given continuous function F. We determine profile curves of such surfaces parameterized in terms of the principal curvature λ. Then we consider some special cases by taking F(λ) = aλ+ b and F(λ) = aλm for particular values of the constants a, b, and m.Yayın A path loss model for link budget analysis of indoor visible light communications(Istanbul Univ-Cerrahpasa, 2021-05) Miramirkhani, FarshadIn the context of beyond 5G indoor communication systems, visible light communications (VLC) has emerged as a viable supplement for existing radio frequency based systems and as an enabler for high data rate communications. However, the existing indoor VLC systems are limited by detrimental outages caused by fluctuations in the VLC channel gain because of user mobility. In this study, we proposed a tractable path loss model for indoor VLC that reflects the effect of room size and coating material of surfaces. We performed an extensive advanced ray tracing simulation to obtain the channel impulse responses within a room and presented a path loss model as a function of distance, room size, and coating material through curve fitting. In addition, path loss parameters such as the path loss exponent and the standard deviation of the shadowing component were determined. The simulation results indicate that path loss is a linear function of distance, path loss exponent is a function of room size and coating material, and shadowing follows a log normal distribution.Yayın Harmonic resonance phenomena on nonlinear SH waves(Işık University Press, 2023-04) Ahmetolan, Semra; Özdemir, Neşe; Peker Dobie, Ayşe; Demirci, AliThe interaction of shear horizontal (SH) waves in a two layered elastic medium and its mth harmonic component is studied. The dispersion relation is analysed to obtain the wave number-phase velocity pairs where the third and fifth harmonic resonance phenomena emerge. By employing an asymptotic perturbation method it is shown that the balance between the weak nonlinearity and dispersion yields a coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (CNLS) equation for the slowly varying amplitudes of the fundamental wave and its fifth harmonic component. The nonlinearity effects of the materials and the ratio of layers’ thicknesses on the linear instabilities of solutions and the existence of solitary waves are examined.Yayın The Davutoglu era in Turkish foreign policy(Seta Foundation, 2009) Aras, BülentAhmet Davutoglu was appointed Turkish foreign minister on May 1, 2009. Chief advisor to the Turkish prime minister since 2002, Davutoglu is known as the intellectual architect of Turkish foreign policy under the AK Party. He articulated a novel foreign policy vision and succeeded, to a considerable extent, in changing the rhetoric and practice of Turkish foreign policy. Turkey's new dynamic and multidimensional foreign policy line is visible on the ground, most notably to date in the country's numerous and signifcant eforts to address chronic problems in neighboring regions. Davutoglu's duty will now shif from the intellectual design of policies to greater actual involvement in foreign policy as he undertakes his new responsibilities as minister of foreign afairs. Te Davutoglu era in Turkish foreign policy will deepen Turkey's involvement in regional politics, international organizations, and world politics.
