(Işık Üniversitesi, 2022-04) Ayyadumi, Yasser Abdullah Mohsen; Falcıoğlu, Pınar; Işık Üniversitesi, Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü, Yöneticiler İçin İşletme Yönetimi (İngilizce) Yüksek Lisans Programı
With the advent of the novel COVID-19 disease, the world has become facing an extraordinary situation that has changed the course of normal human life upside down and pushed them towards compulsory, recent technology-based alternative solutions, educational life is an integral part of that. The higher education institutions in Turkey rushed from the first moments to avoid the disruption of education process, and transformed into the full-fledged online learning system. Therefore, the current study addressed aims to investigate ‘How satisfied with the transformation to Blackboard Learning System BLS for high education students, Istanbul-Turkey, during COVID-19 disease period 2020 are’ through a comparison of undergraduate and postgraduate students’ perceptions via thirty items divided into six axes, which are included in a single model. An online questionnaire survey sent through BLS itself and WhatsApp was filled out by a total of 294 student respondents, wherein afterwards an inferential and descriptive study with quantitative approach has been employed for analyzing their perceptions. The findings are indicative that the Usefulness, Engagement, Communication and Ease of Use, Self-efficacy, and Challenges axes respectively have a statistically significant effect on students’ perceptions concerning satisfaction with the BLS. As the Usefulness and Engagement axes have the highest contribution to students’ satisfaction with the BLS, unlike, the Challenges axis has the least contribution. It can be reported that the transformation into BLS during COVID-19 disease period is satisfactory for higher education students. With superiority of postgraduate students’ perceptions, in terms of Self-efficacy, Communication and Ease of Use and Challenges axes, along with a clear supremacy of the postgraduate students’ perceptions over the Overall axes level. Moreover, all demographic dimensions except gender, place of the living, the kind of device preferred and the willingness in using BLS in the future, influence the undergraduate and postgraduate students’ perceptions. An ease of use and communication, increased self-efficacy, flexibility, availability, accessibility, transferability, affordability, interactivity, saving-time moderately and positive changes of students’ life are shown to be the most traits the BLS has. Unlike, BLS, while effective, gives rise to a sense of isolation, lack of concentration, the reluctance of attendance, plus fairly vulnerability of participation, which are demonstrated to be the most drawbacks in The BLS. Some recommendations might contribute to successful implementation and satisfying use of BLS have been suggested.

(Elsevier B.V., 2021-06) Sheykhivand, Sobhan; Mousavi, Zohreh; Mojtahedi, Sina; Yousefi Rezaii, Tohid; Farzamnia, Ali; Meshgini, Saeed; Saad, Ismail
The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) could be described as the greatest human challenge of the 21st century. The development and transmission of the disease have increased mortality in all countries. Therefore, a rapid diagnosis of COVID-19 is necessary to treat and control the disease. In this paper, a new method for the automatic identification of pneumonia (including COVID-19) is presented using a proposed deep neural network. In the proposed method, the chest X-ray images are used to separate 2–4 classes in 7 different and functional scenarios according to healthy, viral, bacterial, and COVID-19 classes. In the proposed architecture, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) are used together with a fusion of the deep transfer learning and LSTM networks, without involving feature extraction/selection for classification of pneumonia. We have achieved more than 90% accuracy for all scenarios except one and also achieved 99% accuracy for separating COVID-19 from healthy group. We also compared our deep proposed network with other deep transfer learning networks (including Inception-ResNet V2, Inception V4, VGG16 and MobileNet) that have been recently widely used in pneumonia detection studies. The results based on the proposed network were very promising in terms of accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and specificity compared to the other deep transfer learning approaches. Depending on the high performance of the proposed method, it can be used during the treatment of patients.

The effect of SARS-CoV-2 virus on resting-state functional connectivity during adolescence: Investigating brain correlates of psychotic-like experiences and SARS-CoV-2 related inflammation response
(Elsevier Ireland Ltd, 2023-12) Yılmaz Kafalı, Helin; Daşgın, Hacer; Şahin Çevik, Didenur; Sozan, Sara Sinem; Oğuz, Kader K.; Mutlu, Müge; Özkaya Parlakay, Aslınur; Toulopoulou, Timothea
We first aimed to investigate resting-state functional connectivity (rs-FC) differences between adolescents exposed to SARS-CoV-2 and healthy controls. Secondly, the moderator effect of PLEs on group differences in rs-FC was examined. Thirdly, brain correlates of inflammation response during acute SARS-CoV-2 infection were investigated. Eighty-two participants aged between 14 and 24 years (SARS-CoV-2 (n = 35), controls (n = 47)) were examined using rs-fMRI. Seed-based rs-FC analysis was performed. The positive subscale of Community Assessment of Psychotic Experiences-42 (CAPE-Pos) was used to measure PLEs. The SARS-CoV-2 group had a lesser rs-FC within sensorimotor network (SMN), central executive network (CEN) and language network (LN), but an increased rs-FC within visual network (VN) compared to controls. No significant differences were detected between the groups regarding CAPE-Pos-score. However, including CAPE-Pos as a covariate, we found increased rs-FC within CEN and SN in SARS-CoV-2 compared to controls. Among the SARS-CoV-2 group, neutrophil/lymphocyte and thrombocyte*neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio was correlated with decreased/increased FC within DMN and SN, and increased FC within CEN. Our results showed rs-FC alterations within the SMN, CEN, LN, and VN among adolescents exposed to SARS-CoV-2. Moreover, changes in rs-FC associated with PLEs existed in these adolescents despite the absence of clinical changes. Furthermore, inflammation response was correlated with alterations in FC within the triple network system.

(PressAcademia, 2022-07-30) Teker, Suat; Örendil, Emre
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to propose a comprehensive definition for business models, reviews and summarizes the findings of a previous work by Guckenbiehl and Corral de Zubielqui (2022) about how business models have evolved by providing insights from reshaped businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology - In this study, an extensive literature review is followed to learn about definition of business models and how business model have been adapted or even innovated during the times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings - Construction of a well-planned business model is a requirement for an organization to reach success. In the times of disruptive events, business models go through adaptive or innovative changes which is a necessity for survival and further success. It is observed that organizations generate different responses to crises (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic) in means of business model changes. The understanding of these differences is facilitated by the aforementioned work through grouping organizations in six different clusters. Conclusion - The structure of a business model prior to the COVID-19 pandemic was also one of the determinants of a business’s response to the pandemic. Businesses either made no changes in their business models, or made notable innovations, or little adaptations in response to the disruptive environment.
