(SPIE-Int Soc Optical Engineering, 2016) Zago, Lorenzo; Guex, Benjamin; Yeşilyaprak, Cahit; Yerli, Sinan Kaan; Keskin, Onur
The Turkish DAG 4-m telescope is currently through the final design stage. It is to be located on a 3170 m mountain top in Eastern Anatolia. The telescope will be a state-of-The art device, alt-Az mount with active primary and adjustable secondary and tertiary mirrors. Its optics design is specially aimed at being compatible with advance adaptive optics instrumentation. The ultimate performance of such a telescope results of multiple concurrent effects from many different components and active functions of the complex system. The paper presents a comprehensive integrated (end-To-end) model of the telescope, comprising in one computational sequence all structural, electrodynamics and oactive optics performance that produce the image quality at the focal plane. The model is entirely programmed in Matlab/Simulink and comprises a finite element model of structure and mirrors, dynamics modal reduction, deformation analyses of structural and optical elements, active optics feedback control in the Zernike modal space.

Optimum torque distribution during regenerative braking in a fully electrical vehicle via dynamic programming
(IEEE, 2023-10-28) Ergün, Ömer; Çaycı, N. Okan; Dinçmen, Erkin; İstif, İlyas
In electric vehicles, it is important to maximize their regenerative braking performances for obtaining longer driving distances. In this study, for an electric vehicle having motors on the front and rear axles, an optimum torque distribution algorithm based on dynamic programming method is proposed for maximizing the regenerative braking energy. Electric motor limits, efficiency maps, battery model and braking force constraints given in the European regulations are considered in the proposed algorithm. The dynamic programming algorithm code and simulation studies for different braking scenarios are carried out via MATLAB. Simulation studies show that via the proposed torque distribution algorithm, significant improvements in the regenerated braking energy are obtained with respect to the fixed-rate torque distribution algorithm.

Wideband bandpass filter design for X band horn antenna via numerical techniques
(IEEE Computer Society, 2015) Köprü, Ramazan; Aydın, Çağatay; Atilla, Doğu Çağdaş; Kılınç, Sedat; Yarman, Bekir Sıddık Binboğa
Design of an X band horn antenna and a wideband unit element microstrip bandpass filter (UEBPF) for this antenna are presented with satisfactory agreement between theoretical and simulation results. Numerical methods known as real frequency techniques (RFTs) have been utilized in Richards domain to yield optimum driving point Darlington input impedance function belonging to the UEBPF that enables a maximum RF power transmission between the designed horn antenna and an RF driving source. Using a high precision Richards immittance synthesis package in Matlab, characteristic impedance values of each UE, out of k number of commensurate (equal length) transmission lines forming the UEBPF, is extracted from the input impedance function. Theoretical design (Matlab of Mathworks Inc.) and simulation (ADS of Agilent Inc., HFSS of ANSYS Corp.) results are shown to be very promising and in a high degree of agreement with each other.

Unit element bandpass filter design via simplified real frequency technique for UWB microstrip patch antenna
(IEEE Computer Society, 2014) Köprü, Ramazan; Kılınç, Sedat; Aksen, Ahmet; Yarman, Bekir Sıddık Binboğa
Design of a UWB (Ultra Wideband) microstrip patch antenna to operate in the first channel of the UWB standard and a bandpass (BP) UE (Unit Element) microstrip filter (BPUEF) for this antenna are studied and presented with promising experimental results. A typical UE BP filter is a lossless 2-port network which is formed with certain number of cascade connected commensurate transmission lines. Based on the simplified real frequency technique (SRFT) in Richards domain, driving point Darlington impedance function of the BPUEF is obtained via optimization such that optimum power transfer would be possible between a PA (power amplifier) and the antenna. Using the UE synthesis, characteristic impedance values of each UE is extracted from the input impedance function. Theoretical design (Matlab), simulation (ADS, Agilent Inc.) and the measurements are shown to be in a high degree of agreement.

Termination transformation theorem for microwave power transfer networks
(World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte Ltd, 2020-03-15) Köprü, Ramazan
Termination transformation theorem (TTT) proposed in this work transforms a doubly complex terminated microwave power transfer network (PTN) to an equivalent doubly resistively terminated termination transformed network (TTN) which is essentially a filter network. In this work, the transducer power gain (TPG) formula, Tgen, based on S and transmission (ABCD) parameters for the PTN have been restudied from the classical literature. Then, a new TPG formula, Tgen1, based on the newly proposed TTT has been derived using the transformed TTN network. To be able to show the validity of the proposed TTT, the newly derived TPG formula Tgen1 and the classical TPG formula Tgen have been computed within the scope of an example PTN design. The theorem has been proved mathematically, and experimentally as well with the aid of a Matlab code. The performance plots yielded from the Matlab code have clearly shown that both TPG formulae, i.e., Tgen and Tgen1, are in complete agreement with each other. In that sense, the proposed TTT might be considered as an alternative and helpful technique to be used in microwave engineering.
